Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) for introducing S. 2773, the Driftnet Modernization and Bycatch Reduction Act, to phase out the use of mile-long drift gillnets in the eastern Pacific by 2020 and bring California swordfish fishing in-line with all other U.S. and international swordfish fisheries.

ASA Government Affairs committee outlines industry agenda for coming months
(Mar 30, 2018 - Alexandria, VA) During its annual spring meeting, the American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) Government Affairs committee discussed a variety of sportfishing policy positions and outlined its agenda for the coming months. Over the course of the two-day meeting – held March 26-27, in Washington, D.C. – the committee held briefings with three federal agencies, hosted a panel of key Congressional staff and met with several Congressional offices.

(Oct 5, 2017 - Alexandria, VA) After decades of dedicated service both on Capitol Hill advocating for fisheries resource conservation and management and as the leader for the recreational fishing industry’s trade association, the American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) President and CEO, Mike Nussman, has announced that he will retire as of March 31, 2018.

The bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senators Bill Nelson (D-Fla.); Marco Rubio (R-Fla.); Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), and Joe Manchin, III (D-W.Va.), passed by a voice vote on October 2.
