Century and Cobia Boats Sign On As Title Sponsors Of New Professional Tarpon Tournament Series

(May. 17, 2004 - PANAMA CITY, FL.) Cobia and Century Boats has signed on as the title sponsor of the new Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS). The tournament series, which includes five regular season events and one championship event in a live release format, will be held in Boca Grande Pass, Fla. Cobia and Century are providing first place prizes for each event in the series. Winners will receive either a 1901 Century or 191 Cobia bay boat complete with a Loadmaster aluminum trailer and powered by F115 Yamaha four-stroke outboards. Second and third place winners will receive cash prizes of $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. "We are very pleased to be the title sponsor of this exciting new tournament series which has been described as a 'poor man's NASCAR"," says Dean Burnett, vice president and general manager of Century and Cobia Boats. "The thrill and challenge of competitive tarpon fishing really appeals to our customers and it's a great way to showcase our boats." The events are limited to three hours of fishing, and the field is limited to 50 four-person teams including the captain. Entry fees are $600 for each of the five qualifying events, and $1,000 for the final Jim Beam Tarpon Cup championship. Only the top 25 teams will qualify for the final tournament. The tournament allows anglers to use live bait and jigs. The PTTS will be filmed and broadcast as a one-hour, 13-week television series on the Sunshine Network with the potential to reach 5.9 million viewers four times per week. Joe Mercurio, vice president of the Tarpon Anglers Club and radio host of Smells Like Fish will be the on-air host of the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series television show. The qualifying PTTS Tournament dates are May 1, 9, 16, 22 and 29. The Jim Beam Tarpon Cup Championship will be held on June 6, 2004.   Century and Cobia boats are designed to meet any need or budget, from affordable family fishing boats to serious offshore fishing boats.
