The team of Brian Cook and Calvin Cothron, of Springfield, Tennessee were declared the winners of the 20th Annual Governors Bass Tournament, held Saturday, at Kentucky Lake. The fisherman launched their boats at Paris Landing State Park.
A total of 227 boats were registered for $12,000 in prize money.
Cook and Cothron caught a load of bass that weighted a total of 24.17 pounds to earn the $5,000 first place prize. They surpassed Doug Storie and Daid Schmidt of Tennessee Ridge, who brought in 21.85 pounds of bass and took home the second place prize of $1,500.
Donnie and Lila Williams of Paris, had a good day at the lake; they caught a total of 20.51 pounds of fish and took fourth place and $600?they also won the Big Bass pot with a large mouth bass that was 7.47 pounds making their total winnings nearly $2,000.
Scott Mansfeild of Mackenzie, Tennessee, also had a lucky day. He walked away with the grand door prize of $2,000.?
The morning started with heavy rain and lighting but that did not stop the fishermen competing in the tournament. They went out with their rain gear on and by mid-day they were pleased to see beautiful sunny skies.?
With all of the support from the community and the Governors Club, the?Austin Peay Governors Bass Tournament?has been able to raise over $450,000 in the past 20 years.
