16.20 lbs. wins at Lake Lewisville during windy conditions

Wind, wind, and more wind! A strong cold front brought a colder temperature and gusty 30 40 mph winds to greet the couples that competed tournament morning. Temperature at start time was in the upper 30’s with a wind chill in the lower 20’s however by weigh-in it did manage to reach the upper 50’s. Fishing was tough for the couples due to the wind but the fish were biting pretty well. The Metroplex Division couples can always manage to find a few fish during any weather conditions and on any lake we go to and it definitely showed at Lewisville.

Our 1st place couple for the tournament was the 2001 “Couple of the Year” Tommy and Vicki Redmon of Burleson, who managed to bring in a 5 fish limit to the scales that weighed a whopping 16.20 lbs. to take home a check for $400.00. Tommy and Vicki caught their fish on 3/8 oz. chartreuse spinnerbaits in the back of Tower Bay cove by the boat ramp on stickups and rip-rap. Congratulations!

The 2nd place couple, Ralph Holland and Mary Lyons of Meridian, caught a 5 fish limit that tipped the scales at 11.84 lbs. to take home a check for $230.00. Ralph and Mary caught their fish on chartreuse Lunker Lure Triple Back Vibrablade spinnerbaits in the little creek next to Arrowhead Park boat ramp. Great Job! In addition, I want to thank Ralph and Mary for donating two Wal-Mart gift cards as door prizes from their business Mary’s Drive-Thru in Meridian. Third place couple, who is members of C.A.S.T. Northeast Division, Bill and Audrey Gammons of Lewisville, brought in 2 fish to the scales that weighed 8.34 lbs. that got them a check for $135.00. Nice catch and thanks for coming out and fishing with C.A.S.T. Metroplex.

BIG BASS RESULTS:
A 5.76 lb. bass was overall big bass of the tournament. The lucky couple who caught this hawg was also Bill and Audrey Gammons of Lewisville. Audrey caught the fish and it is her first time to win the Big Bass award she stated. Congratulations! The Gammons received a check for $75.00 for that fish to go along with third place overall finish. Great Job! Our second place big bass was a 5.47 lb. bass who was caught by Quincy and Carolyn Brown. I want to thank Quincy and Carolyn for donating two cases of Miller Lite beer at the tournament. It is a very popular prize that the couples enjoy. Thank You!

NEXT EVENT INFORMATION:C.A.S.T. Metroplex Division will be heading Southeast to Cedar Creek Lake on March 30th. Registration and weigh-in will be held at Caney Creek public boat ramp located next to the bridge. Directions from the city of Malakoff: Take highway 31 east to highway 198. Turn left on highway 198 going north. Go over the bridge and turn right into the boat ramp parking lot.Registration will start at 5:30 a.m. by the ramp. Approximate take-off time will be between 6:15 6:45 a.m. I would like everyone to be in the water by 6:10 a.m.

Fishing on Cedar Creek should be excellent. The weather should be normal spring like temperatures but remember that we are in Texas and I have seen it snow on March 30th before. The water temperature should be in between 60 65 degrees. As everyone knows the spawn should be in full swing. Lures that possibly might work at Cedar Creek are buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, stick baits, lizards, and jigs. Fish these baits in the backs of creeks and coves, laydowns or whatever looks enticing to you.

DIRECTORS COMMENTS:
First of all, We want to thank everyone that come out and braved the winds at Lake Lewisville. I was very surprised of the turnout that we did have at our second event of the season. Please couples do not get discouraged about participation, we have the memberships to have an outstanding tournament if the winds stay calm and it fits right on everyone’s schedule on tournament day. Remember to tell all your friends to come out and join C.A.S.T. it’s not too late.

I want to remind everyone that fishcast has all of the weigh-in sites posted under Metroplex region except the last event at Eagle Mountain and it will be held at Fort Worth Anglers Club. If you have not seen the web site please check it out. Also, if you do not get your newsletter due to our postal service please go to the web site and read it there.

Sponsorships have been extremely difficult this year and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for your support on giving door prizes. Thank you Quincy and Carolyn Brown, Conley and Kelly Staley, James and Gail Quisenberry, and Ralph Holland and Mary Lyons and others for your support and your kind giving of door prizes.

“Couple of the Year” race is under way and John Staley and Page Cundiff have intercepted the lead after the second event. However it is still way too early to determine the outcome. With four remaining tournaments left please do not get discouraged. To qualify for the championship all you need to do is fish all six events or accumulate 250 points. Remember, We are all here to have fun, enjoy the sport of bass fishing, meeting and making new friends.

Again, we want to thank everyone that participates with C.A.S.T. Metroplex Division. If there is anything we could do to improve this division please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (817) 838-2218. We hope to see all of you at the next event at Cedar Creek. If you get in trouble at any of the events such as engine breaks down or trolling motor problems you can call us on our cell phone number (817) 797-8854 so we can come get you or help you.

Good Fishing,
