We are pleased to announce an expanded relationship with The Billfish Foundation (TBF), as a 2014 Official Tag and Release Sponsor. Established in 1990, The Billfish Foundation’s Tag and Release Program is the largest private billfish tagging database in the world, and is the cornerstone of TBF’s conservation and advocacy efforts.
David Salazar commented on this sponsorship, saying “In 1998, I began fishing in Guatemala as Captain of the Yellowfin and Man o’ War, and I always knew I would return to these billfish-rich waters. Now my wife Kristen and I have returned to Guatemala as new owners of Casa Vieja Lodge, and it only felt natural to become a TBF Tag and Release Sponsor.”

Congratulations to all who took part in the 2014 Jake Jordan Invitational Sailfish Fly Challenge from Jan 7-9, 2014 held at Casa Vieja Lodge.

1st Place: Team Intensity 2,250 points
2nd Place: Team Rum Line 1,850 points
3rd Place: Team Spindrift & Team Release tie at 700 points

In the past 2 weeks, our fleet has been doing outstanding, not all boats have been fishing everyday but here are the big numbers so far!
Makaira, Capt Jason Brice: 211 raises, 178 bites, 129 releases, 4 marlin raises, 2 marlin bites, and 2 marlin releases.
Release, Capt Chico Alvarenga: 183 raises, 140 bites, 81 releases, 5 marlin raises, 3 marlin bites, and 1 marlin release.
Rum Line, Capt Chris Sheeder: 175 raises, 141 bites, 101 releases.
Intensity, Capt Mike Sheeder: 283 raises, 117 bites, 71 releases, 2 marlin raises, 2 marlin releases (striped and blue).
Spindrift, Capt Nicho Alvarenga: 131 raises, 103 bites, 64 releases, 1 marlin raise.

Casa Vieja Lodge on the road at 2014 Shows!
The Casa Vieja Lodge Team participated in The International Sportsmen Expo held in Denver, CO January 16-19. This was our first attempt at introducing West Coast anglers to beautiful Guatemala and all that Casa Vieja Lodge has to offer.
We will be attending two more shows this season: The Miami International Boat Show in Miami Beach, FL, and The Fred Hall Show in Long Beach, CA. Come out and visit us, and if you have a show in mind that you think we should be at, let us know!
