American Sportfishing Association Receives Excellence in Public Relations Award from the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers

The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) has awarded the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) its 2011 Excellence in Public Relations Award. The award was presented during AGLOW’s 55th annual conference taking place September 19-22, at the Honey Creek Resort State Park in Moravia, Iowa.

Each year, AGLOW presents the Excellence in Public Relations Award to a corporate member who displays outstanding advocacy and outreach to the outdoor sports community through the creative use of media, a cohesive public relations plan and support to outdoor communicators.

ASA was nominated and ultimately received the award due to its success in raising the visibility of issues that affect recreational fishing and for the success of the highly-visible and successful KeepAmericaFishing national angler advocacy campaign that works to preserve anglers’ rights to fish on public waters.

”ASA has long been a unified voice for our sportfishing community and the outdoor media is very grateful for their support,” said AGLOW Executive Director Josh Lantz. “The KeepAmericaFishing campaign engages the fishing public directly while also providing our outdoor media with the critical facts and research we need to do our jobs.”

”We want to thank Mr. Lantz and the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers for this honor,” said ASA Vice President Gordon Robertson, and lead for the KeepAmericaFishing campaign. “Through organizations such as AGLOW, we can keep anglers informed about issues that affect recreational fishing and how important it is that their voice be heard.”

Founded in 1956, AGLOW is one of the oldest, largest and most active professional outdoor communicators’ groups in America. AGLOW’s primary mission is to perpetuate, conserve, improve and promote the great outdoors, natural resources, the outdoor traditions of hunting and fishing and the outdoor recreational experience by educating the public through the use of written, oral and graphic arts communications.

The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) is the sportfishing industry’s trade association, committed to looking out for the interests of the entire sportfishing community. We give the industry a unified voice speaking out when emerging laws and policies could significantly affect sportfishing business or sportfishing itself. We invest in long-term ventures to ensure the industry will remain strong and prosperous as well as safeguard and promote the enduring economic and conservation values of sportfishing in America. ASA also gives America’s 60 million anglers a voice in policy decisions that affect their ability to sustainably fish on our nation’s waterways through KeepAmericaFishing, our angler advocacy campaign. America’s anglers generate over $45 billion in retail sales with a $125 billion impact on the nation’s economy creating employment for over one million people.
