It’s near the last week in July on Lake Tawakoni. As the tournament starts all I can hear from our couples is not does anyone have some hooks, or certain bait that they can borrow, but does anyone have a JACKET that I can borrow. That’s right, we were fishing right in the middle of a July cold front that blew in on Saturday night and had dropped starting temperatures into the upper 60’s. That’s quite away from the normal high of 100 degrees that we are used to fishing in during the month of July.
The fish must have enjoyed the cooling weather also as several nice bags of bass were brought to the scales. It was Bill & Audrey Gammons who had the largest limit with a little over a 3-pound average for a total weight of 16.97 lbs. They were Carolina fishing a EXUDE Poc’it Fry that they bought at their local Academy Store off a creek channel in about 10 feet of water. They took home $790 for the day.
Running a close second with another 3 pound average stringer was Erbie & Carolyn Voyles with a bag of fish that hit the scales at 15.29 lbs. Erbie also had the big bass of the tournament with one that weighed 5.34 lbs. Their catch earned them a check for $560.
Rounding out the top six at Lake Tawakoni were Paul Merritt & Teresa Powell, 13.14 lbs; Craig Merritt & Heather Carson 10.01 lbs; Rayford & Diane Richman, 9.62 lbs.; and Bill & Bree Wilcox, 9.34 lbs.
This tournament concluded the Northeast region’s 2004 tournament season and we would like to thank all the wonderful couples that made it such a success this year. A special thank you to Garry & Connie Darby and Larry & Carol McMinimy for helping us run all of the 2004 Northeast C.A.S.T. Region tournaments. We could not have done it without them.
