This is the first time in the 19-year history of the CAST Northeast region that a couple has won two tournaments in a row. That in itself is quite a fishing accomplishment and should make this couple stand out, however what makes them stand out in my opinion is the fact that Joe was not present for the award presentations. He had volunteered to get back in his boat and go tow in a couple who were stranded several miles up the lake with motor trouble. This is the true trait of this couple and what CAST is all about.
As for the tournament, it was the first time this year that our couples did not have to fish in freezing cold weather and gale force winds. One could not have asked for a nicer day to hold a tournament on. With no wind and the temperature starting out at 60 degrees and climbing to the low eighties it was a perfect day. The calm wind allowed Joe and Susie Moss of Bullard, Texas to see the bass on the beds. Joe said that they spent as much as an hour and a half on some of the fish that they caught before they could get them to bite.
For the second tournament in a row most of the fish that they caught came on a 7-inch Mr. Twister green pumpkin Exude lizard with a 1/16 weight and again they just made many, many casts. They were rewarded with a five fish limit weighing 16.77 lbs. and took home $1,095.00 for their effort.
Larry & Elizabeth Petr of Dallas were a close second with a limit of bass weighing in at 15.62 lbs. The Petr’s are also having a very good year as Larry weighed in a 10.76 lb bass in the last tournament on Richland/Chambers.
Third place went to a new couple fishing CAST for the first time this year, Joe Don Setina & Ashley Fuller of Scroggins. They had 14.97 lbs. and the second big bass of the tournament with a fish weighing 5.54 lbs. This was Ashley’s first fishing tournament. Looks like Joe Don picked a very good partner.
Rodney Landers and Lorna Bailey were our fourth place couple with a limit of bass going 13.28 lbs. Fifth place with to Marty & Jill Sugg with another limit weighing in at 12.13 lbs. Rounding out the top six were Joel & Lea Ann Howell with 11.67 lbs.
We want to especially thank Rick & Linda Milam for opening up their home for our annual BBQ pot luck dinner. They have a wonderful place on the lake that holds everyone. Not only that but Rick said that he slaved over a hot grill all day cooking the BBQ to perfection, but that he was not sure what Linda was doing. Was I supposed to tell that? Again, thanks to all the couples who brought food, there was indeed an abundance of great things to eat; I know I tried them all.
