The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Hamilton Oct. 2-3 for the Arkie Division’s two-day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“It’s been tough all summer,” said 2007 Forrest Wood Cup champion and Folgers pro Scott Suggs of Bryant, Ark. “It’s really down from what it’s been over the last few years. Guys should be throwing a spinnerbait or a buzzbait shallow, and of course, a shaky-head rig around boat docks will produce. If a person could catch 9 pounds a day, that should be enough to win.”
Takeoffs will be at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Hulsey Hatchery Access located at 350 Fish Hatchery Rd. in Hot Springs, Ark. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. each day while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Hulsey Hatchery Access. Sunday’s weigh-in will be at 3 p.m. at Allen Tillery Chevrolet located at 4573 Central Ave. in Hot Springs. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Hamilton BFL tournament is being hosted by the Hot Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings following the tournament will qualify for a regional championship where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the FLW American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
