As the on the water battle for 2010 Forrest L. When the 2010 FLW Tour season wrapped up on Lake Guntersville in Huntsville, Ala., Bass Tackle Depot fishing team member Justin Kerr; a first year FLW Tour pro had wrapped up his first national title when he claimed the 2010 FLW Tour Rookie of the Year award.
Kerr, from Simi Valley, Calif. has been quietly dominating the Western tournament trails for the past several years. In fact, his record since turning pro, the young angler has won an FLW American Fishing Series event on Lake Havasu, and the U.S. Open title amongst a slew of regional and local tournaments.
Upon finishing the 2009 FLW Series National Guard Western Division schedule in third place in the points, Kerr accepted his invitation to compete on the FLW Tour, and started his run at the Rookie of the Year title.
His season started slow, as he began the process of getting acclimated to the big waters of the Southeast and the Midwest, but after missing paychecks at Table Rock Lake and Lake Norman, he found his groove. Consecutive paychecks at Ft. Loudoun/Tellico Lakes and Lake Ouachita, followed by a season high 18th place finish at Lake Guntersville gave him a total of 769 points for the season; good for a 26th place finish in the FLW Tour Standings.
Having been already qualified for the 2010 Forrest L. Wood Cup at Lake Lanier, outside Atlanta, Ga., Kerr will be making his first appearance at FLW Outdoors’ largest and most important event of the season this week as anglers compete for the $500,000 first prize.
