Blizzards, Fog and High Water Have Made First Three Events Challenging – To Say The Least

Tournament resultsMarch 14 – Baylor/Childress Brave were the few C.A.S.T. couples that showed for registration during a spring Panhandle blizzard. Predictions for Sunday’s tournament were less wind and snow, but the cold was very evident as the teams hit the water of Baylor (Childress was closed due to poor road conditions). The day stayed extremely cold with anglers citing brain freeze from driving down the lake. Breaking a tie by all teams would be Nedra Pruett with one black caught just prior to weigh-in at the ramp. This 3.73 bass would earn Richard & Nedra first place honors and gave Nedra the Ladies Big Bass award. The other teams cited they all tied for second place for braving the elements, as the Pruetts take a large lead for the team of the year.

Tournament resultsApril 25 Possum KingdomFollowing a partly cloudy and windy pre-fish day, the teams hit the water with rainstorms to the north and east of the central Texas water. Conditions were foggy, but pleasant on tournament day, with the lake level approximately six foot low. The showers hit the anglers mid-morning and though the fish were tight to the trees, they were biting. Nearly all teams brought fish to the scales (Nedra brought in a huge green perch).

Placing first was the team of Sam & Karen Taylor with five fish weighing 14.97 lbs. Roy & Mary Alderson would place second with three fish weighing 8.33 lbs. Third place went to Gladys ‘Moma’ and Chris Stroud for three fish weighing 5.11 lbs. Big Bass Honors went to Sam for the Men’s and Mary for the Ladies’ Big Bass for their respective 4.78 lb. blacks. Sam’s was caught from the brush with a small black/chartreuse ringworm while Mary’s was caught with a dark red worm off a bed.

Tournament resultsMay 16 Ute Lake, NMConditions were windy and the water high due to several recent storms, but the water color was good. New Mexico lowered the smallmouth length limit to 12 inches so nearly all teams brought bass to the scales with two blacks over five pounds.

Congrats to Randy & Nancy Read for a first place win with 3 fish weighing 8.71 lbs. Second went to Dan & Donna Brooks with 3 fish weighing 7.89 lbs. Dan earned the mens big bass award with 5.25 lbs. Third place went to Sam & Karen Taylor with a limit of fish weighing 7.31 lbs.

‘Moma’ Stroud brought in the ladies big bass with a 2.22 lb. black. Way to go Moma!!! Holding onto a substantial lead in the team standings are the Pruetts, with the other teams are placing hexes and fishing hard to overtake for team of the year honors.By: Sam & Karen Taylor, Directors
