Lake Alan Henry, the diminutive 2,880-acre reservoir southeast of Lubbock, did it again this weekend, contributing its sixth Budweiser ShareLunker since January 1.
Gary Boyles of Lubbock caught the 13.61-pound largemouth bass Sunday morning, fishing in 12 feet of water in Grape Creek with a Berkley Power Worm. The fish was 25.25 inches long and 21 inches in girth.
A private lake also contributed a ShareLunker, a 14.12-pounder caught by Douglas Garland of College Station. Garland was using a Stanley spinner bait in five to six feet of water. The fish was 26.5 inches long and 21.75 inches around.
Lake Alan Henry tightened its grip on third place on the list of public reservoirs contributing lunker bass to the Budweiser ShareLunker program. Lake Fork has produced 220 ShareLunkers, Sam Rayburn 21, and Alan Henry 11. On a big bass per acre basis, however, Alan Henry ranks second. It has produced a ShareLunker for every 261.8 surface acres, while Lake Fork has produced one for every 125.8 acres. Sam Rayburn has produced a ShareLunker for every 5,452.3 acres.
March is always the peak month for ShareLunker entries, and this month will be no exception. Nine ShareLunkers have been entered into the program since March 1, and with a full moon falling on a holiday weekend, ShareLunker program manager David Campbell expects to be very busy picking up fish.
