The first College Smash-Mouth Bass Fishing Championship is set to air on ESPNU.
The event, taped in early October, features six two-man teams competing in a unique two-day tournament format.
Students from Purdue University, the University of Illinois, the University of Iowa, Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin and the University of Kentucky participated in the event held on Lake Monticello in Arkansas.
“It was our honor to have all these students take part in the event,” said Billy Chapman, producer of the one-hour special. “The program will not only show off their fishing skills, but also how much fun we all had.”
The telecast will be hosted by ESPN Outdoors hosts Tommy Sanders and Mark Zona.
The schedule for the one-hour program is as follows:
ESPNU (All Times Eastern)
November 106 PM
November 115:30 PM
November 127:00 AM
November 179:30 AM
November 241 PM
“We know there are lots of college students bass fishing close to campus or during summer break,” Chapman added. “Many of them have started bass clubs and have contacted us about 2006.
“Right now there are a dozen schools already slated to be involved in next year’s event and when the show airs we think that number will go through the roof.”
