A very excited and dedicated group of couples braved early morning freezing temperatures to compete in the first regional tournament of the year for the south region of C.A.S.T. And “compete” they did. As boat numbers were called at first good light it appeared all boats got off without a hitch. However, after a look around, we discovered one boat was left at the ramp. Eric and Michelle Shedrock, one of the ten (10) new couples this year, had chosen to borrow a friends boat to fish their first event in C.A.S.T. As luck would have it, the minute the motor started, Eric discovered he had problems. The steering was locked up.
For most of us, the inability to steer our boat would mean we put it back on the trailer and go home. Well, not this couple. After just a bit of ventilation and discussion, Eric settled down, got on the trolling motor and took off!! With friends following them out and checking back periodically, Eric and Michelle weighed a tournament winning total of 5 fish for 12.79 lbs. that came on red and crawdad Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps. That takes fortitude. But this is a perfect example of the determination and dedication of C.A.S.T. couples throughout this organization.
Only one other 5 fish limit was weighed in and the majority of their fish took a liking to ‘Traps, too. Donna Anderson & Larry Martin posted a total of 9.98 lbs. for their strong second place finish.
