August is hot in West Texas making the fish bite slow, but our C.A.S.T./North’s final tournament of the year turned out to be a fun time for our couples, with the majority catching and weighing fish. Lake Bridgeport is a great lakeif you like to catch fish the most of the day, and being a slot lake you neverknow if those fish are going to be large or small. Even though most of the fish were of the smaller size our couples did manage to boat some keepers.
Most of our couples reported using small white or shad colored crankbaits and white/chrome blade spinnerbaits to land their keepers, with a few comingearly on poping topwater baits fished next to the banks close to deep water drop offs.
David and “Bassin’ Buffy” Burks netted five small keepers weighing in at 5.10 LBS for first place heavy stringer.
Don and Chris Mahanay almost decided not to weigh the “Big Bass” of the tournament because they thought that it would never be “big enough”, but when you fish a slot lake even a small fish can be big bass of the day, and after careful consideration decided that it might be a possibility. That 1.55 Lb possibility turned into the first prize money and trophy that the Mahanay’s have won this year.
