Day 1 – Legacy Series Lake Guntersville National Championship,

The FOM Legacy Series National Championship got underway 7:00pm Thursday evening at the Civitan Park Pavilion on Sunset Ave nestled along the east shore of Browns Creek in Guntersville, AL. Over 600 Adult-Junior competitors and family members gathered for a night of food, fun, and fellowship. We want to thank our Presenting Sponsor, Strike King Lure Company, Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Lisa Socha, Executive Director, Creek Path Baptist Church and Chris Wells.

Friday morning at 6:15 am, 246 Adult-Junior teams blasted off on the vast waters of this perennial bass fishery in search of a five fish limit that help them claim the top prize, a Triton 18 SE, powered by a TR-150 hp Mercury Optimax engine.

With clear skies and scorching heat, the huge bass that inhabit Guntersville Lake proved to be illusive for many teams, as 181 teams out of the 246, brought in 572 bass that weighed 1569.60 lbs. 64 five fish limits were included in this Day-1 total catch.

Although competitors were tight lipped about how they caught their fish a couple stated that their bass fell for topwaters and jigs.

Leading the Legacy Series National Championship at the close of Day 1 are Louisiana North Central teammates, Blake Shelby and Tanner Wyatt, who hauled in 20.34 lbs to capture this lead.

Chad Prough and John Whittington, Georgia South, took the second place spot today with a limit weighing in at 19.20 lbs.

Robert Medas and Trey Eslinger, another Georgia South team, placed third today with 18.93 lbs, which also included a 5.59 lbs kicker fish.

Presently sitting in the forth slot with 18.39 lbs are Tennessee West competitors, Shawn and Bryson Penn.

Rounding out the top five with five fish going 17.96 lbs are another Tennessee West team, Michael and Drew Keough.

Kentucky teammates, Mike Casada and Tyler Gregory, stunned everyone when they brought in an 8.34 lbs brute which won them $550.00 and the 1st Big Fish award.

South Carolina Upstate anglers, Casey and Breana Whitehead earned $350.00 and the 2nd Big Fish award for their 6.49 largemouth.

We want to thank Strike King, Presenting Sponsor, along with Lisa Socha and Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau, event host, Speaker, Chris Wells, and Creek Path Baptist Church for the meal.
