CAST South couples began the 2005 fishing season with a very successful tournament on Coleto Creek Reservoir. Having a January tournament can sometimes be a little risky in regards to the weather, but the sun was shining on us at Coleto giving temperatures in the 60s. Three new couples joined our group and a couple of previous members returned. Welcome to everyone.
The top three teams this month were very close. Congratulations to Doug and Jennifer Baker (father-daughter team), taking first place with a nice 5-fish stringer weighing 14.09 lbs. The Bakers always do well on Coleto, but Doug mentioned this was the 1st time they had won there.
Another couple that always does well, David and Penny Herzog, had a second place finish with a 5-fish stringer weighing 13.47 lbs. They also had big bass with a 5.69 lbs beauty. Third place went to long time members, Bill and Mary Beth Langenberg. Their 5 fish limit weighed 13.38 lbs.
Rounding out the top six were: 4th-Damon and Krista Vance-9.10 lbs, 5th-Robby and Dawne Robinson-8.94 lbs, and 6th-Mike Fleming and Melissa Ramey-7.76 lbs. Almost all our teams weighed fish. Good job everyone.
According to our teams, the fish were caught on several baits, but crawdad crank baits in 6 – 8ft water seemed to produce the most fish with plastics bringing in the rest. CAST South is looking forward to the next tournament on Lake Amistad, February 20th.
We would like to thank our local sponsors for this tournament – Travis Boating Center, T & C Tackle and Easy View Tackle Systems.
C.A.S.T. / South would like to thank all of our national sponsors for their help in making these tournaments possible. Ranger Boats, Mercury Outboards, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Eagle Claw, Mr. Twister, J-Ann Awards, Fishingworld.com, Luxor Custom Jewelers, Ad Mart, Kraft Foods, and all the great couples of the C.A.S.T. South region who donated door prizes.
