ESPN Great Outdoor Games on Hiatus in 2006; Will Reture in 2007

ESPN today announced that it will not stage the ESPN Great Outdoor Games in 2006.

โ€œESPN is committed to continuing to produce excellent Outdoors content and events,” said Christine Godleski, vice president and general manager of ESPN Outdoors. โ€œHowever, as we work to grow this event, we determined the best course of action at this time is to take a break and assess what we need to do to make the Great Outdoors Games bigger and better than ever.โ€

โ€œOur plan is to re-launch the event in 2007 with fresh ideas and approaches that will improve it for our fans, viewers and participants.โ€

The Great Outdoors Games have been successful on many fronts, generating strong ratings, passionate crowds, three Sports Emmy awards and other honors. Moving forward, ESPN will evaluate everything including site selection, sports categories and the best time of the year to stage the Games.

The company will continue to dedicate its resources to a wide array of ESPN Outdoors programming and content on many of its outlets for what promises to be the most exciting year in the history of ESPN Outdoors.
