Building on its rich tradition of more than 25 years of outdoors programming, ESPN Outdoors will continue to bring the latest when-to, where-to and how-to information with entertaining and exciting shows, some new and some familiar, on ESPN2, presented in high definition.
The top-notch programming kicks off with a bang. The third episode of Offshore Adventures, which airs Sunday, Jan. 13, will feature President Bush and husband-and-wife hosts Chris and Melissa Fischer searching for striped bass on the Chesapeake Bay out of St. Michael’s, Md.
In February, ESPN2 delivers live coverage of bass fishing’s premier event, the 2008 Bassmaster Classic, set for Feb. 22-24 on South Carolina’s Lake Hartwell. ESPN2 will air more than 11 hours of coverage from the event, which awards $500,000 to the winner.
The ESPN Outdoors show lineup also includes new episodes of fan-favorite shows, such as Driven to Hunt and World’s Greatest Fishing Show.
“We will continue to serve outdoors fans with quality programming,” said Todd Myers, director of programming for ESPN Outdoors. “We are excited about the strong mix of shows that will provide solid information that can be applied in the outdoors.”
Also in February, during Super Bowl week on Feb. 2, Beat Charlie Moore, the popular show in which Moore challenges local anglers to try to beat him on their home waters, will feature former NFL quarterback great Doug Flutie.
Saturdays are anchored by the Bassmaster Tournament Trail, a one-hour show after each of the 2008 season’s 11 Bassmaster Elite Series events, the most prestigious level of tournament fishing. Also on Saturdays, World’s Greatest Fishing Show, with ESPN Outdoors television personality Mark Zona, brings the excitement of recreational fishing to fans.
On Sundays, when hunting programming kicks off in July, ESPN Outdoors will feature the return of Driven to Hunt, a popular, 30-minute weekly program that follows NASCAR’s top drivers, owners and crew chiefs into the field for challenging adventures with television’s top hunting hosts: Bill Jordan, David Blanton and Michael Waddell of Realtree Outdoors.
Also from Team Realtree, the top-rated Realtree Outdoors, one of the longest running outdoors programs on cable television, will be packed with product information and hunting tips from the Realtree pros.
Host Tom Miranda is back with Territories in the Wild, formerly known as Advantage Adventures. An expert bow-hunter, Miranda goes toe-to-toe with some of the world’s most dangerous animals, offering viewers some of the most exhilarating hunting experiences.
In 2007, fishing fans had a chance to bid farewell to The Fishin’ Hole presented by Stihl, which had been on for 25 years. Show host Jerry McKinnis retired and the second-longest running show on ESPN behind SportsCenter ended its legendary run.
