After you’ve been “bowled” over on New Year’s Day, there’s nothing like a day of fishing to wind down and get back into the swing of things. It’s no coincidence that ESPN2’s Saltwater Saturday presented by Triton Boats & Mercury Outboards takes to the sun and surf on Jan. 2.
In Search of Flywater, presented by Chevrolet
The programming kicks off at 7:00 a.m. ET with “In Search of Flywater.” It’s more than a fishing show and unveils a fresh new look this year. The series brings international fly-fishing guide and outfitter Cindy Garrison together with West Coast fly-fishing guide Conway Bowman for a blend of excitement and discovery never seen before.
Also on board is Curt Gowdy, the dean of outdoors television. Curt joins Cindy and Conway with his personal insights into the journeys that have shaped his past and present.
Big Game Fishing the World
Exploring many top offshore hot spots, Capt. Norm Isaacs and his son, Darrin, cover the gamut on “Big Game Fishing the World,” each Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET.
Viewers will learn the difference in what’s popular for the massive black marlin found off Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the equally huge blue marlin to be found off the coast of Hawaii. From Panama to Tortolla, the game fish may vary, but the excitement and scenery is always top-notch.
George Poveromo’s World of Saltwater Fishing
At 8:00 a.m. ET, viewers will want to ride along with Salt Water Sportsman Senior Editor and renowned angling authority George Poveromo as he travels the world in search of its greatest game fish. Each episode is created around a particular species and region and is guaranteed to entertain and inform.
George and his crew offer a creative blend of action sequences and technical discussions. They carefully explain how to select the appropriate tackle and the most productive fishing tactics, as well as how to tie knots, rig baits and lures and much more.
Thirteen episodes ranging from Massachusetts to Florida and from the Bahamas to the Gulf of Mexico target exotic species such as sailfish, swordfish, yellowfin tuna and permit, along with regional favorites like striped bass, flounder, cobia, dolphin, grouper, snapper, redfish and more.
The Walker’s Cay Chronicles
Now in its eleventh award-winning season, “The Walker’s Cay Chronicles” is simply one of the finest fly-fishing shows ever made. Each episode tells its own complete story through intelligent writing, spectacular cinematography and underwater photography, a memorable mix of host (Flip Pallot), guests, locations and tremendous angling action.
There’s poetry in the writing and telling of these stories that captures the allure of fly-fishing as well or better than any series ever produced. Find out what fly-fishing is all about on “The Walker’s Cay Chronicles,” each Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Offshore Adventures, presented by Red Lobster
At 9:00 a.m. ET, climb aboard the “Go Fisch,” join the crew, and share the majesty and mystery as we set out in search of “Offshore Adventures.” The program is an ocean-oriented, documentary-style travel chronicle of a team of four adventurous young people aboard a 72-foot fishing yacht, the “Go Fisch.”
Hosted by boat owners Chris and Melissa Fischer – and featuring “Go Fisch” skipper Captain Brett McBride and five-star gourmet chef David Traylor – the team journeys to exotic destinations, fishing, free-diving, surfing and exploring the cities, villages and countryside of the areas they visit. Chef Traylor provides creative, delicious gourmet meals utilizing the day’s catch in the “Gourmet Galley” cooking segment of each episode.
Spanish Fly
Some of the greatest adventures in sportfishing are highlighted each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET on ESPN2’s longest-running outdoor program, “The Spanish Fly.” Host Jose Wejebe shares his journeys on his home waters off the Florida Keys and in exotic locales like Venezuela, Costa Rica and Brazil.
Captain Jose and “The Spanish Fly” always deliver the right blend of practical information, breathtaking scenery, underwater footage and heart-pounding action, but itâs the unmistakable soundtrack of each episode thatâs created an enormous, loyal following and established “The Spanish Fly” as a favorite for so many.By: ESPN Outdoors
