‘FLW Outdoors’ to Air Wal-Mart Open on FSN

Beaver Lake brings out best of bass pros Sunday

For bass pros competing on the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, springtime fishing on Beaver Lake has become a constant. After nearly a decade’s worth of yearly tour stops at northwest Arkansas’ fine fishery, fans have come to know they can count on the annual Wal-Mart Open to bring out the best in FLW Tour anglers. This year was no exception, and “FLW Outdoors” will highlight the 2006 event in two parts, beginning Sunday on FSN.

Pros fishing in the Wal-Mart Open powered by Tyson vie for a whopping $200,000 top award, and co-anglers compete to cash the $40,000 first-place check. In addition to world-class competitive angling, cameras were rolling to also capture a host of compelling features and helpful fishing techniques that will air Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern time on FSN.

Veteran pro Mike Wurm of Hot Springs, Ark., offers viewers his philosophy of tournament bass fishing, which has obviously served him well as he has racked up six top-10 finishes on the FLW Tour, including a win. The program also takes a look at Wurm’s other passion – golfing.

Bounty Basics pro and Beaver Lake aficionado Craig Powers of Rockwood, Tenn., again shows he’s a force to be reckoned with in the Pro Division. On the co-angler side, Team Tyson’s Pam Wood of Bono, Ark., makes the FLW Tour finals for the second time in her career at Beaver Lake, and FSN’s crew follows her from the top-10 cut to takeoff the following day.

In the show’s “Fishing 101” segment, Tyson pro Tracy Adams of Wilkesboro, N.C., spends some time on the water showing country singer Mark Wills a topwater-bait technique, while Wills gives some insight into his onstage world. Viewers will also see a clip of Wills performing a song from his new album for the Wal-Mart Open crowd. Following up on the showbiz theme, “FLW Outdoors” explores the path that led soap-opera star Real Andrews of Milford, Conn., to his status as an upstart co-angler for Team Gain.

The episode also catches up with pro George Jeane Jr. of Evans, La., to find out what he did after his big FLW Tour win at Pickwick Lake earlier in the season. Jeane discusses why the victory meant so much to him.
