‘FLW Outdoors’ To Televise Wal-Mart FLW Series Event From Lake Cumberland

Second regular-season event of $6.5 million season to air Sunday, June 4

Tune in Sunday, June 4 to “FLW Outdoors” on FSN for the $900,000 Wal-Mart FLW Series event held on Lake Cumberland in Somerset, Ky. The second tournament of the $6.5 million FLW Series season concludes with the winning pro claiming a cash prize of $100,000.

A full field of 200 pros and 200 co-anglers competes for the first three days of FLW Series events. Co-angler winners are determined on day three by the heaviest accumulated three-day weight. The top 10 professionals continue competition on day four, and the winner is determined by the heaviest accumulated weight from all four days. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the one-hour show until the final weigh-in results are announced.

The June 4 show features pro Sean Hoernke of Magnolia, Texas, who leads the pack after catching a three-day total of 11 bass weighing 34 pounds, 12 ounces. Hoernke has been finesse fishing secondary points in small pockets of the lake with a 1/8-ounce homemade jighead tied to 10-pound line. He has been tipping the jighead with a green-pumpkin 4-inch Zoom finesse worm under cloudy skies, and a watermelon-candy finesse worm under sunny conditions.

FSN also follows Mike Hawkes of Sabinal, Texas, who is in second place with 13 bass weighing 34-8. Hawkes has been throwing an albino Zoom Super Fluke Jr. and a white Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver that he used for a few sight-fish. But the bulk of his smallmouth weight came on a 1/8-ounce jighead rigged with a Reaction Innovations Flirt Worm. Despite his brilliant performance thus far, Hawkes believes he is running out of fish. Watch as this tournament veteran takes a gamble and fishes new water on the fourth and final day of the tournament.

Kellogg’s pro Clark Wendlandt of Leander, Texas sits in fifth place after three days on Cumberland. After catching sizeable limits on day one and day two, Wendlandt, a renowned smallmouth angler, was only able to boat one keeper-sized bass on day three. However, the sight-fishing extraordinaire has located a bunch of new fish that just moved up to spawn. Tune in as Wendlandt puts his keen angling eyes to work on day four.
