The fourth event of the 2005 National Boat Mart TVA Tournament Series was held on Morse Lake, in Noblesville, Indiana. Morse in the past has been a fish factory, with record weights, limits, double digits to cash checks, everything good about a lake Morse had it.
But this time Morse was not so kind when the series arrived. The anglers set out in hopes of big creels, shattering record weights, and a decent day on the water. What happened next was not pretty. Yet history would still be made.
To say the weigh-in was light, would be an understatement for Morse. Kokomo, Indianas Frank Brown came to the scales with four bass weighing in at 8.14 pounds. Brown worked hard all day, and was disappointed at weigh-in because he lost his fifth fish a couple times during the day. History was made: This was the first tournament at Morse that it did not take a limit to win. This was also the first time the winner of the Morse event did not have double digit weights. Now for the last chunk of record making, Frank Brown. Brown has fished the series for three years, has been very close in past events, but never had quite enough to put him over the top. This time he did, and won his first NBM-TVA Bass Series event.
In second was Demotte, Indianas Don Deerwester. Deerwester came in with four bass that tipped the scales to the 7.07 pound mark. I was hoping that the water would be stable temperature wise along with water clarity, however, the temps were a bit lower than I would have liked. Usually, Morse is a great place to power fish but that wasn’t the case Saturday. My initial area was too muddy, so I went to my backup areas and really had to slow down my presentations in order to get bites. I was using tubes and worms in 8-14 feet of water. It took all day just to get the 4 I had. I just tried to forget what I have done in past tournaments here and focused on the conditions for the day. That was the key to my success explained Deerwester. Deerwester is sponsored by: All-walls.com, Awningguy.com, Crown Industrial Supply, JV custom baits, Kinami baits, Merrillville Awning Co., and TD support services.
In third was Adam Wright of Monticello, Indiana. Wright had two bass that weighed 6.05 pounds. Wright caught his fish in a foot of water or less on a crankbait. He also had the tournaments big bass, a very respectable 4.09 pound Morse largemouth.
Rounding out the Top-5 was was Burnettsville, Indianas Jerry Drazer fourth. Drazer had two bass that weighed in at 5.92 pounds. This was sure a tough nut to crack today remarked Drazer at weigh-in. I really didnt think two fish would even get you a sniff at the money today, the weigh-in today is very non-typical of this lake. I really thought Id messed up somewhere big time today, didnt lose any, just didnt get bit explained Drazer. Drazer is sponsored by: Interstate Batteries, Hendrickson Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep of Monticello, Kick-N-Bass Attractants, and Super Wash Car washes. In fifth was Gerald Shaw who came to the scales with two healthy keepers weighing in at 4.15 pounds.
The next NBM-TVA Tournament Series event will be held on Lake Manitou Saturday June 4th, out of the DNR Ramp..
