Aug. 20 program to highlight $200,000 qualifying event
Tune in Sunday, Aug. 20 to “FLW Outdoors” on FSN for the $200,000 Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series event in Cocodrie, La. The third Western Division tournament of the $1.9 million FLW Redfish Series season concludes with the winning team claiming a cash prize of up to $50,000.
The “FLW Outdoors” saltwater series is a reality-format show told from the anglers’ perspective. Each week the top-five finalists are followed from takeoff to weigh-in, allowing the audience to feel the anglers’ nerves, listen to their strategy and learn from their mistakes. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the one-hour show until the final weigh-in results are announced.
The Aug. 20 show follows Andy Mnichowski of Marrero, La., and John McGill of Slidell, La., who caught four redfish over the first two days of competition that weighed 32 pounds, 5 ounces. To find the right fish, the leaders ran about 100 miles east to the Venice, La., area of the Mississippi River Delta. They fished in three feet of clear water inside duck ponds that were teeming with baitfish and crustacean forage. Mnichowski is throwing a spinnerbait with a shad trailer, while McGill is pitching a 4-inch Berkley Gulp! Shrimp in natural color on a 1/8-ounce jighead.
FSN also follows Team Berkley, consisting of brothers Jonathan and Kris Culpepper of Houston, Texas, who caught a two-day total of 32 pounds to grab hold of second place overall. This team has not only qualified for the finals, but they are in realistic striking distance of first place. After starting the final round in second place at the last Western Division event in Port Aransas, Texas, the Culpepper brothers finished strong and won their first FLW Outdoors tournament. Watch as this dynamic duo has a chance at back-to-back Redfish Series tournament titles.
With 10 days of practice under their belt, the team of Gerry Glueck of River Ridge, La., and Brent Roy of Baton Rouge, La., were able to bring in a two-day total of 30 pounds, 12 ounces to qualify for the finals in third place. Like many other teams, Glueck and Roy are making a long run in search of big bites. Watch as the two gamble on day three and travel over 100 miles to fish their home waters of Venice, La.
