FSN TO TELEVISE WAL-MART FLW WALLEYE LEAGUE FINALS

Oct. 22 show to highlight walleye fishing’s top weekend anglers

Tune in Sunday, Oct. 22 to “FLW Outdoors” on FSN for the $141,950 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals held in Escanaba, Mich., on lake Bays de Noc. The one-hour show covers the sport’s most prestigious championship for weekend walleye anglers and concludes with the winning boater claiming a $45,000 Ranger Z621 powered by Evinrude.

Boaters and co-anglers who finished in the top 35 in final points standings in each FLW Walleye League division advanced to this no-entry-fee tournament. Boaters and co-anglers will be randomly paired and fish for a combined boat weight, with boaters competing against other boaters and co-anglers competing against other co-anglers. Local regulations restrict anglers to three walleyes under 23 inches and two walleyes over 23 inches as part of their five-fish limit.

Glenn Chenier of Gladstone, Mich., caught 10 walleyes weighing 40 pounds, 4 ounces during the first two days of competition to lead the field. Chenier and his partner, Mike Kordus of Menasha, Wis., caught five keepers on day two by pulling crawler harnesses along a reef in 9 to 30 feet of water approximately 14 miles from Escanaba. Chenier finished second during his last league finals appearance in Escanaba in 2004. With a 2-pound, 7-ounce lead heading into the tournament’s final day, watch as the local angler looks to secure his first FLW Walleye League victory.

The Oct. 22 show also follows veteran walleye pro John Schneider, who caught 37 pounds, 7 ounces during the opening round. The Shawano, Wis., native finished the regular season third in the Wisconsin Division points race. Much like Chenier, Schneider is an expert when it comes to open-water trolling. Earlier this year, he placed 10th at the FLW Walleye Tour event held on Green Bay. With four top-10 finishes to his name, Schneider has both the skill and the experience necessary to capture victory.

FSN also features David Kolb, perhaps the most accomplished angler in the 2006 FLW Walleye League Finals field. In 2003, Kolb braved rough seas on day four of the FLW Walleye Tour event on Lake Erie. Making a brutal 20-mile run to Pelee Island, the Ada, Mich., resident returned with five fish that weighed 29 pounds, 6 ounces. Those five walleyes earned Kolb $50,000, a new Ranger boat and first place. This time around, Kolb sits in fifth place with one day left.
