Jason Reyes & Waylon Hull Win

The first ever Anglers Quest Tournament of Champions is now in the books, and all Series are complete for 2005. This event was derived from the Top 5 points leaders from each of Anglers Quest 5 Series of events. The event began on Friday morning with the attending qualified 16 teams hitting the water for a day of practice on a body of water that most had never seen before. The weather for the three day event could not have been any nicer, with temps in the mid 60’s in the mornings to high 70’s in the evenings with breezy, cloudy and sun shiny conditions. The meeting and calcutta auction followed and sold teams from $50 to $160 and raised $1475.00 to add to the anglers pot.

As Day 1 got underway with the 16 qualified teams taking off into the dim morning light after the playing of the National Anthem at 6:20 am. The anglers were all going for the Guaranteed winner $5,000.00. The water at Martin Creek was in really good shape going into the event at approximately 5 ft below normal pool, the 16 teams brought in 8 limits of bass, 63 fish that totaled 160.68 lbs with a 2.56 avg. Day 2 produced a whopping 15 limits 77 fish-198.40 lbs and a 2.57 avg weight. After both days were complete there were 140 total bass caught with 23 limits-359.08 lbs and a 2.57 overall average weight.

Waylon Hull from Humble, Tx brought in the heaviest 5 bass limit on day 1 at 18.27 lbs fishing alone while partner Jason Reyes was finishing up at the B.A.S.S. open event at the Red River. Waylon reported catching his limit on tx rigged finesse worms & buzz baits in 1-5 ft of water around riprap.

The second biggest stringer to come to the scales on day 1 at 17.37 lbs was from the team of Randy Quin from Huffman, Tx & Dave Roberts from Trinty, Tx. They reported catching their bass in 12-18 ft deep water on the north end of the lake throwing spinner baits, c-rigged 6″ to 10″ worms and buzz baits.

Larry Cotten from Huffman, Tx & Ricky Guy from Humble, Tx came to the scales on day 1 with a limit of 5 bass at 15.75 lbs to hold down the 3rd position and reported catching their bass on spinner baits and 11 junebug worms in 6-10 of water with bushes. The Husband & Wife team of Scotty & Cheryl Scott from Hockley, Tx held down 4th on day 1 with 14.80 lbs. They reported catching their bass on rattle traps, rogues, & tx rigged baby brush hogs in 2-14 ft water around bushes. Chris DiBerardino from Huffman, Tx fishing alone came to the scales on day 1 with 5 bass that weighed 13.36 lbs to hold down the 5th spot. Chris reported catching his bass on ¼ ounch ball nosed jigs in bushes in 14 ft of water.

Day 2 weigh-in was very exciting as all of the field still had a shot at collecting a great check for fishing in this event. 15 of the 16 teams weighed in a limit of bass on day 2. Julian Clepper & Mike Mueller from Magnolia, Tx brought 10 bass to the scales over the event to boost their 2-day total to 23.32 lbs and claim 8th place and $400.00. 7th place was claimed by Jeff Jackowski & Steve Cross from Spring, Tx weighing a 2 day total of 8 bass at 23.60 lbs to claim $450.00. Chris Berry & Chavez Rideaux brought in a total of 10 bass to boost their total to 24.95 lbs and claim 6th place and $500.00. The team of Scotty & Cheryl Scott brought another 5 bass limit to the scales, at 12.45 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 10 bass at 27.25 lbs to finish in 5th place and collect $600.00. Larry Cotten & Ricky Guy weighed 10 bass during the 2 days for a total of 28.03 lbs to collect 4th place and $750.00 for their efforts. Chris DiBerardino came to the scales on day 2 with 5 bass that weighed 15.69 lbs to give him a 10 bass 2 day total of 29.05 lbs to secure 3rd place and collect $1075.00. Randy Quin & Dave Roberts 10 bass limit for 2 days tipped the scales at 29.71 lbs to finish 2nd place in this event and collect $1965.00. Jason Reyes showed up on day 2 to help partner Waylon Hull bring in another impressive limit of 5 bass at 18.26 lbs to give the team a 2 day total weight of 10 bass at 36.53 lbs and collect $5345.00. One of the 10 bass they brought to the scales was the Big Bass of the event, a fine 6.27 lber falling prey to a buzz bait. We are now inviting all anglers to gear up to make the cut to come to the Anglers Quest bigger and better Guaranteed $10,000.00 to the winner Tournament of Champions in 2006 to be held on Lake Tyler in Tyler Tx.

Anglers Quest 2006 Schedules are now available online at www.anglers-quest.com. The 1st event for the 2006 season will be the Saturday Series Team event on Lake Livingston, January 7, 2006 which will be a trailering event with registration and sign up at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle.
