The C.A.S.T. West region held it’s first tournament of the 2003 season on beautiful Lake Brownwood in central Texas. Starting the first weekend of February is something that most fishermen always dread. The bitterly cold wind in their faces all day long and fish that just don’t bite. However, the couples of the C.A.S.T. West region just don’t put up with any of these problems, they pray for good weather plentiful fish and the Lord provides.
Joey and Christi Wynn, a new couple to CAST this year, won the first tournament of the 2003 season with a nice bag of fish going 7.53 lbs. They collected $500 for their effort. Joey and Christi worked the shores of Lake Brownwood with their Continental Battery powered trolling motor working jigs and crank baits around the rocks. Jesse and Carrie Allen, another couple that’s always in the running for the money, finished a strong 2nd place with 6.95lbs. They said the bite was very slow but we know there are some Mister Twister baits in their tackle box that they always use when the fishing gets tuff.
Rounding out the top six teams were David and Shelley Booe from Munday with 5.77 lbs; Kent and Neta Geeslin from Goldthwaite with 5.60 lbs; Dalton and Carrie Cooley from Brownwood with 4.82lbs; and Mike and Lori Schooler from Weatherford with 4.70 lbs.
Our next tournament will be held on Lake Leon, March 2nd, 2003. We will headquarter at the Ramada Limited on I-20 in Eastland. (254-629-1914).
