Anglers Quest 2004 Wednesday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Wednesday Conroe Series is complete for 2004. The event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special Trophies to Anglers of the Year, the father & son team of Ron & Ronnie Wagner. They will receive free entries to all A/Q Wednesday Series Events in 2005. The Top 10 Angler Teams of the year were awarded Top 10 Plaques with the statistics of all 23 2003 Wednesday Series events engraved. Next, there was an auction of the graphite fishing rods donated from All Star Rods and the Check-It Stiks also donated from Keith Fields at Tournament Angler Accessories. The Big Bass pot auction, along with the $25 per man donated raised a Big Bass Pot totaling $1820.00. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $60 to $1040 and raised $10,760.00 to add to the anglers pot. Lake Conroe was in good shape at about 18″ below normal pool. The weather was very windy with steady 15-20 mph winds on both days of the event, but was incredibly nice as mid 60’s at daybreak to mid 70’s during the days. As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem, the 25 Qualified Teams took off into the dim morning light at 7 am going for the $19,355.00 purse which was the 97% payback promised by A/Q at all Championships.

Keith Kramer & Chuck Gstohl from Conroe, Tx brought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day 1 with 16.08 lbs. Brian Burkhalter from Houston, Tx brought in 5 bass that tipped the scales at 15.86 lbs to hold down the 2nd spot on day 1.

The brothers team of Keith & Elbert Clark from Magnolia & Plantersville, Tx brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed in at 14.39 lbs to grab the 3rd spot on day 1. The husband & wife team of Mike & Barbara Parsons from Willis, Tx had 5 bass at 12.02 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day 1. The 5th spot on day 1 was filled by the team of Randy May from Willis & Michael Stewart from Conroe, Tx. They had 3 bass that tipped the scales at 10.25 lbs.

Day 2 was also started at 7 am by the national anthem. Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as the lead changed several times. Kramer & Gstohl brought 4 bass to the scales that weighed 12.81 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 28.89 lbs and the 1st place check totaling $4395.00. Keith & Chuck failed to buy their team during the Calcutta auction on Friday night, Ward Baker & Charles Rucker purchased them for $925.00 and received a 1st place Calcutta check for $4035.00.

Parsons & Parsons brought in 3 more bass on day 2 that weighed 12.42 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 24.44 lbs. They did buy their team in the auction and took home the 2nd place A/Q Plaques and $4923.00.

Brian Burkhalter from Houston & Rusty Neimeyer from Willis, Tx brought 5 bass on day 1 that tipped the scales at 15.86 lbs and another 3 bass at 7.05 lbs to the scales on day 2 to boost their 2-day total to 22.91 lbs and claimed the 3rd place A/Q plaques. Brian & Rusty also bought their team at the auction and received checks totaling $3167.00.

Clark & Clark could only manage to bring in 2 bass on day 2 to bring their total to 20.89 lbs and claim the 4th place A/Q Plaques and $675.00.

Ronnie Chumley from Magnolia & Jeff Winders from Hockley, Tx weighed in a total of 4 bass at 17.08 lbs over the 2 days. Chumley & Winders also brought in the 2nd big bass on day 2, a fine 6.76 lber that paid them $546.00 for 1 bite. Ronnie & Jeff collected a total of $886.00 for their 2 days of fishing.

The Big Bass of the event was brought to the scales on day 2 by the team of Scott Mohr from Conroe & Vince Anderson from Willis, Tx a fine 7.20 lber that was caught north of the 1097 bridge on a secret top water bait. That one bite made Scott & Vince a total of $1274.00. Nearly all the bass were caught cranking small crank baits, throwing buzz baits or tx rigged small plastic baits in 1-4 ft water north of the 1097 bridge.

Anglers Quest 2005 Schedules will be available very soon. All A/Q events in 2005 will be conducted on Lakes Conroe, Houston and Livingston. The 1st event for the 2005 season will be the Super Team Series Team event on Lake Houston, January 2, 2005 going out of Lake Houston Marina. Please call 281-852-8842 for entry or info.
