Anglers Quest 2010 Sam Rayburn Weekend Team Series #7 out of Mill Creek Park in Brookeland, TX began this event with 76 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $5150.00 purse. After the playing of the National Anthem this event was started at 5:55 am. The anglers had to be in line to weigh by 3:15 pm. This Rayburn Weekend Team Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2011 Rayburn Weekend Team Series events.
FLASH All A/Q lake series championships have been reinstated for 2010 and will be done on home series lakes. The Top 25 anglers entering a minimum of 5 Rayburn Weekend Team series events will automatically qualify for the 1-day Sam Rayburn Weekend Team Championship in October. Any angler making the cut to any A/Q Championship will also be eligible for the “Tournament of Champions” at Lake Palestine in November.
Sam Rayburn water was in good shape and about 1 1/2 ft below normal pool level with water temps running 78-80 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 74 degrees with a warming to 94 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was pretty good on Big Sam today as there were 26 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 144 bass at 430.11 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.98 lb.
The team of Keith Ray from Nederland, Tx & Stephen West from Beaumont, Tx ran Keith’s Nitro/Mercury bass rig to various sauth lake area brush piles in 15′ water to catch their 5 bass limit on Falcon rods/Plueger reels tipped with tx rigged worms. The team weighed in at 1:30 to avoid any of their fish dying. Keith & Stephen had 23.34 lbs making them a $1800.00 payday for a 1st place finish.
The team of Steve Evans & Dennis Oates from Lufkin, Tx ran Steve’s Ranger/Rude bass rig to mid main lake areas to catch their bass. They managed to cull up to their best 5 keepers late in the day to finish in 2nd place with 22.41 lbs and collect$1000.00 for their day on the water.
Cory Stanley from Deweyville, Tx & Gary Wilkerson from Warren, Tx ran Cory’s Champion/Yamaha bass rig to mid main lake on a milk ran to various places throughout the day to finish in 3rd place with a total of 5 bass at 19.94 lbs fishing with cranks & tx rigged worms around scattered grass. They took home $775.00 for their day on the water.
The team of Josh Guy & Bobby Martin Guy from Texarkana, Tx ran Josh’s Nitro/Tracker bass rig to Bear Creek lake areas to finish in 4th with their best 5 bass, caught using their American Rodsmiths rods tipped with frogs around shallow grass that tipped the scales at 19.11 lbs. They had a limit in the boat by 7 am and then culled several more times throughout the day. Their day on the lake payed back $500.00 for their efforts.
The team of John Salamone from Jasper, Tx & Ray Beck from Beaumont, Tx ran John’s Legend/Mercury bass rig to mid main lake areas to catch their bass using their American Rodsmiths Rods tipped with cranks & tx rigged worms. They managed to catch 5 keepers by late in the day to finish in 5th place with 18.30 lbs and took home $300.00 for their day on the water.
The team of Ty Quick from Jasper, Tx & Ronnie Bickham from Brookeland, Tx ran Ty’s Ranger/Mercury bass rig to main lake points with grass to catch their bass with their rods tipped with cranks & C-rigged worms in 15-20 ft of water. They had a limit of keepers in the boat by 10 am and culled several times by 3 pm to finish in 6th place with a sack of 17.62 lbs and collected $250.00 for their day on the water.
The team of James Laramore & Brandon Bearden from Vidor, Tx ran James’s BassCat/Mercury bass rig to the south lake areas to finish in 7th place with their best 5 bass, caught using their rods tipped with craw worms & small cranks around grass beds that tipped the scales at 17.49 lbs. They had a limit in the boat by 11 am and then culled several times throughout the day. Their day on the lake payed back $160.00 for their efforts.
The first place out of the money team was 8th place Alan Moore & Clint Teutsch, they were not present at the awards ceremony so the Santone & ZZ Lures gift certificates were awarded to the next team present which was the 14th place team of Mike Needham & Todd Gualandri for their catch of 5 bass at 15.16 lbs. Mike & Todd also had the Big Bass of the event at 7.52 lbs to collect $150.00 for that 1 bite.
