Kenneth Cummins & Brian Mater Win Lake Travis Event With 12.14 lbs

Pro Team Tournament Trails (PTTT) Ranger/Mercury sponsored Texas “OPEN” Team circuit fished Austin’s Lake Travis Saturday, September 13th out of Pace Bend Park. 200 fishermen came to compete for chance to win a fully rigged 2004 Ranger 519 SVS powered by a Mercury 200 EFI. This gauarenteed first place prize is the most expensive bass boat awarded by any team circuit in state of Texas.

During registration several fishermen reported that fishing had been tough, but there were some anglers who reported good catches right after that front blew through. Saturday would bring back those clear skies, but the wind seemed to help a little by keeping a slight ripple on the water. Temperatures rose into the low 90’s and most fishermen caught fish, the key was having a good one or two.

The winning team of Kenneth Cummins from Bastrop and Brian Mater from Leander brought in the days heaviest (5) bass limit that weighed 12.14 lbs. That catch would earn them a fully-rigged 2004 Ranger 519SVS w/Mercury 200EFI, MinnKota troll motor, Garmin electronic worth $35,000.00

Kenneth & Brian told the crowd, “we fished the lower end today, the same area where we pre-fished. We caught our fish flipping docks sitting in 35-50′ of water. We were using soft plastics with 1/4 oz and 17 lb.line. We’d make a cast and feed line till we felt a twitch then set the hook.” Congratulations to both Kenneth & Brian for a great win!

The big bass of the event was caught by the team of Allan Luedtke from College Station and Steve Thiel from Austin with a 5.11 lb beauty. Allan told the crowd that the fish was caught on a Senko with no weight in about 13-14′ of water.

Second place went to David McGuffey of Marble Falls and Buddy Chandler from Austin with a very nice (5) bass limit that weighed 12.11 lbs. Mike Hastings tournament director mentioned that David & Buddy were only 3 one hundredths of a pound short from a $35,000.00 fully rigged Ranger/Mercury Boat. David explained, “we caught an 18 lb sack during practice and felt real good going into the event. We probably caught 3 limits today all in about 30′ of water, we just missed it by a little, but were blessed with what we caught!”

Third place and Ranger Cup Bonus money went to the team of Jim Behnken from Garden Ridge and Rick Rasberry from Round Rock with a (5) bass limit that weighed 11.83 lbs. Fourth place went to Kenny Clifton from Cedar Creek and Damon Ross from Cedar Park with a limit that weighed 11.07 lbs. Fifth place went to the team of Joe Sierra of Austin and Dean Alexander from Florence with their (5) bass limit that weighed 11.03 lbs., the y also won the “Doc Waters” lure pack door prize.
