Part of the Redbone Celebrity Series that raises funds to fight cystic fibrosis, the Mercury Baybone Celebrity Tournament is slated for Oct. 1-3 in Key Largo.
The all-release tournament opens with a 2-6 p.m. registration Friday, Oct. 1, at Dove Creek Lodge, mile marker 94.5 oceanside. A kick-off party is to follow at the adjacent Snapper’s Waterfront Saloon and Restaurant.
Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3, anglers are to target bonefish and permit, fishing with a celebrity or in teams of two.
Among the celebrities who have fished recent Baybone tournaments are legendary angler Stu Apte, former Denver Bronco and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mark Cooper, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and pitcher Tim Wakefield, who won a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2004.
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs is to be celebrity host at this year’s event, according to tournament organizer Gary Ellis.
An awards dinner is set for 8 p.m. Sunday at Snapper’s.
As part of the Baybone weekend, the annual Superfly tournament is to be held Friday, Oct. 1. A kick-off party and registration are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday at Snapper’s.
