Mother Nature welcomed C.A.S.T./North to Cooper Lake with a torrential rain storm and lots of lighting. The skies started clearing by 7:00 A.M. and our teams set out to make up for lost time.
Cooper Lake, with it’s 18 inch length limit on largemouths, likes to give the impression that it is a difficult lake for a tournament but when C.A.S.T. couples set their minds on catching fish no lake is too tough. They used the lakes shallow water and abundant weed cover to bring lots of good quality fish to the scales with 3 stringers over 20 lbs.
Robert and Robbie Brooks used tube baits in 7 ft creek channels to land a fantastic 25.25 lb four fish stringer that was anchored with 3 blacks over 7 lbs each. The Brooks took home checks totaling $635.00 for first place and 1/2 of the 2nd big bass money for one black that weighed in at 7.65 lbs.
David and Tammy Waller fished wooded creek channels with tube craws to claim second place with a 21.40 lb stringer. The Wallers also shared 2nd place big bass money with a nice 7.65 lb black.
John Bills and Brenda Reeves fished weed beds close to the boat ramp with Exude Rainbow Shad soft jerk baits. John and Brenda had caught several bass in the 15 -17 inch range before Brenda finally had “Big Momma” hit her bait. After several minutes of fighting the lunker in the thick hydrilla Brenda managed to land the 8.40 Big Bass of the tournament.
