Many of our couples choose this tournament for a mini-summer vacation spot,staying 2 – 3 extra days to take advantage of the vast fishing areas, goodaccommodations, and great restaurants. This year our couples had a specialtreat at weigh-in thanks to Tim Hall of Highport Marina. Deen’s Island Restaurant opened their Cabana especially for our Sunday afternoon weigh-inand provided ice water, iced tea, cold refreshments and food to go. What a way to enjoy weigh-in. Thanks to John Tuck, restaurant manager, for giving our couples the V.I.P. treatment.
The fish were not so free with the V.I.P. passes though. Most of our couples did manage to weigh fish, and most reported catching plenty, even though it was only the small ones that were biting.
Don & Dixie Rodgers fished small pockets around grass and flooded willows in the Big Mineral and Mill Creek areas with Berkley Blue Fleck Power Worms and managed to boat a 5 fish, first place stringer of 10.45 Lbs that included second place Big Bass of 3.30 Lbs.
Second place stringer of 9.80 Lbs was claimed by James and D’Ann Bone.Determined to make up time for missing last months tournament D’Ann landed5 keepers while fishing a shad colored crank bait off main lake points.
John Bills and Brenda Reeves took third place with 8.70 Lbs. When John was asked what the fish were caught on his reply was, “Ask Brenda, she landed all 5 keepers.” The lady Angler was only too happy to report that she used a Berkley Blue Fleck Power Lizard and fished points inside the Little Mineral area.
Bobby and Tammy Hodges brought a 3.85 Lb Smallmouth to the scales to claim Big Bass of the tournament. They caught this brown beauty while fishingmain lake points above Highport Marina with watermelon seed soft jerk baits.
