Anglers Quest 2010 Sam Rayburn Weekend Team Series #5 out of Mill Creek Park in Brookeland, TX began this event with 80 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $5260.00 purse. Due to predicted high winds & thunder storms this event was started as a trailering event at 6:10 am. The anglers made their last cast at 3:15 pm and had to be in line to weigh by 4:00 pm. This Rayburn Weekend Team Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2011 Rayburn Weekend Team Series events.

<> All A/Q lake series championships have been reinstated for 2010 and will be done on home series lakes. The teams entering all 9 or any team entering the remaining 5 (May-Sept) Weekend Team or Individual series events will automatically qualify for all 4 Series Championships. Top 25 in pounds from any Weekend Team or Individual Series with a minimum of 5 events entered will also qualify for championship. If you qualify for any A/Q Championship you will also qualify to go to the 2-day “Tournament of Champions” on November 13-14 on Lake Palestine.

Sam Rayburn water was in good shape and about normal pool level with water temps ranning 73-75 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 70 degrees with a warming to 79 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was pretty good on Big Sam today as there were 25 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 143 bass at 343.01 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.39 lb.

The team of Larry Ford from Kirbyville, Tx & Mark Nelson from Silsbee, Tx ran Larry’s Ranger/Mercury to various mid lake grass lines in 3-6′ water to catch their 5 bass limit on Falcon rods tipped with top water ribbits. Larry & Mark also had the 1st Big Bass of the event, a fine 5.47 lber that paid them an additional $150.00 making them a $1900.00 payday for a 1st place finish.

The team of Brian Branham from Brookeland, Tx & Bill Rogers from Jasper, Tx ran their Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to the mid lake areas to finish in 2nd with their best 5 bass, caught using their American Rodsmiths rods tipped with Tour Tackle jigs with flap daddy trailors around grass that tipped the scales at 20.17 lbs. They had a limit in the boat by 10 am and then culled several more times throughout the day. Their day on the lake payed back $1000.00 for their efforts.

The team of Rusty Clark from Sam Rayburn & Cory Rambo from Orange, Tx ran their Cory’s Ranger/Mercury bass rig to mid main lake areas to catch their bass using their Castaway Rods. They managed to catch 5 keepers by late in the day to finish in 2nd place with 15.29 lbs and $980.00 for their day on the water. They also wanted to thank their sponsors Castaway & Golden Triangle Industries for their support.

The team of Jaret Latta & Chris Fontenot from Nacogdoches, Tx ran Jaret’s Ranger/Yamaha bass rig to mid main lake areas to catch their bass. They managed to cull up to their best 5 keepers late in the day to finish in 3rd place with 14.82 lbs and collect$700.00 for their day on the water.

The team of Randy Despino from Colfax, La & Patrick Richardson from Shreveport, La ran Randy’s Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to mid main lake points with grass to catch their bass with American Rodsmiths rods tipped with cranks & C-rigged worms in 15-20 ft of water. They had a limit of keepers in the boat by 10 am and culled several times by 3 pm to finish in 4th place with a sack of 14.32 lbs and collected $500.00 for their day on the water.

The team of Brian Branham from Brookeland, Tx & Bill Rogers from Jasper, Tx ran their Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to the mid lake areas to finish in 5th place with their best 5 bass, caught using their American Rodsmiths rods tipped with Tour Tackle jigs with flap daddy trailers around grass beds that tipped the scales at 13.70 lbs. They had a limit in the boat by 10 am and then culled 2 times throughout the day. Their day on the lake payed back $325.00 for their efforts.

Ben Vaughn & Michael Latham from Lufkin, Tx ran their Champion/Mercury bass rig to mid main lake on a milk ran to various places throughout the day to finish in 6th place with a total of 5 bass at 13.31 lbs fishing with cranks & tx rigged worms around scattered grass. They took home $260.00 for their day on the water. They would like to thank Tri Lakes Tackle for their support.

The team of Mike Needham from LaPorte, Tx & Todd Gulandri from Friendswood, Tx ran their bass rig to mid lake areas to catch their limit of 5 bass pitching frogs in shallow 2-4 ft deep grass edges and ended up with 13.14 lbs to finish in 8th place and collect $170.00.

The team of Trey Smith & Hunter Gothia from Bridge City, Tx ran Trey’s new Allison bass rig to mid lake areas to probe the grass and bring in 5 bass at 13.09 lbs to garner the last money at 8th place and collect $150.00.

The first place out of the money team was 9th place Tommy Hill & John Frazier, they were not present at the awards ceremony so the Santone & ZZ Lures gift certificates were awarded to the 10th place team of Chris Sparks & Travis Boudreax for their catch of 5 bass at 12.65 lbs. And then to Lake Conroe at El Dorado Jack’s for the 5th of 9 Conroe Individual & Weekend Team Series events on May 29th & 30th.
