The brother-sister team of Larry Martin and Donna Anderson found the conditions acceptable and the fish in Lake Buchanan very cooperativeas they weighed in a five fish bag for a total of 12.16 lbs., which includedoverall big bass for the event; Donna’s 5.03!
After a brief lightening delayed take off, all couples safely made their wayfrom the county launch ramp at the spillway. Lake Buchanan is currently fourteen feet below normal pool, but still very fishable and chock fullof both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Several bags weighed in containeda mixture of both species which seemed to accept a variety of lures andtechniques including Lake Fork Magic Shads, chrome/blue Rat-L-Traps,Terminator spinnerbaits and an assortment of styles of worms and lizards.
Donna reported the majority of her largest fish preferred a chartreuse/pepper color in either a Ring-Fry. Watermelon Creme Super Tubes and pumpkin orwatermelon lizards on either a short Carolina rig or Texas rig fished inside ofsecondary points of major creeks in 3′-12′ seemed to be most productive aftera flurry of early morning activity, even with the rain and overcast sky’s the stuck around all day keeping temperatures down but humidity high.
