“Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” Brought Bauman National Accolades
The program which brought Bauman to national attention is “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!,” a series of fishing seminars held in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Bauman built the program from concept to implementation and utilized her marketing skills to reach thousands of women who might not have otherwise tried the sport. She established a partnership with the FWC in 1997 as a solution to the lack of opportunity for women to learn fishing and conservation skills. Corporate sponsors jumped on board to share the value of this marketing opportunity as well as the chance to promote conservation ethics.
With over 5,000 graduates, LLGF is the largest organization in the world whose objective is to introduce women to fishing. Both Bauman and her seminar series – often dubbed “The No-Yelling School of Fishing” – are renowned nationally in the sportfishing, boating and marine industries. Bauman has received three national awards: Woman of the Year by the American Sportfishing Association; one of the Top 21 Most Influential Marine Industry Leaders for the 21st Century by Boating Industry magazine; and one of the Top Women in American Boating by BoatU.S. Magazine. In recognition of her conservation efforts, National Week of the Ocean presented Bauman with the 2007 Community Marine Award for “Individual of the Year.” Regionally, Avon and The U.S. Small Business Administration presented Bauman with the Women of Enterprise Awardin South Florida and an Award of Excellence was presented to her by The Marine Industries Association of South Florida. As a result of her “Ladies Let’s Go Fishing!” Adventure Trips, The Cove Lodge in Elfin Cove, Alaska named her “Sportsperson of the Year.”
