Under heavily overcast skies that constantly threatened rain all day, Mike and Cathy Cagle put together a five fish limit weighing 16.34 pounds. They had a 5.40 lb bass to anchor their catch. Mike stated that most of their fish came from the Washita point area. “We caught all of our fish on brush hogs,” said Cathy. Mike replied that the cloud cover kept the fish shallow all day.
Steve and Debbie Heck were second place with three nice bass. They were both very happy and surprised to find themselves in second place. They had pre-fished all day on Saturday and had not caught a fish. Steve said, “we truly did not expect to do this good in the tournament, in fact, we did not expect to do any good at all.”
Rounding out the top six finishers were: 3rd Place, Ray & Yolanda Vineyard; 4th Place, Jim & Brenda Harris; 5th Place, Rayford & Diane Richman; 6th Place, John & Grace Watts.
The big bass of the tournament went 6.24 pounds and was landed in typical Texoma fashion. It was caught by Ray Vineyard on a white gitzit throwing under the boathouses.
Once again the true meaning of C.A.S.T. is demonstrated by one of our members. During the weigh-in on Sunday we received a message from an employee of High Port Marina that one of our couples is broken down on the Oklahoma side of the lake and needs help. The couple was visiting from our CAST West region and only knew about where they were as this was their first trip to Lake Texoma. Mike Cagle who was in first place said that he thinks that he knows about where they are and left the weigh-in to go find the couple and tow them back across the lake. Mike, who had never met the couple before, took Tommy Busbee, who is also from the West region, with him to help identify the couple. After about 30 minutes of looking they found the couple tied up to a willow tree and towed them back across the lake. It took a little more than an hour to tow them back and Mike missed the award ceremony for his first place finish. When I told him how much I appreciated what he did for a couple that he had never even met, he said,” that’s what CAST people do for each other. Were all family”. I could have not said it better, thanks again Mike & Tommy
Another one of our couples performed an act of heroism by saving a small dog from the lake. John & Tawny Larsen saw a small head sticking out of the water next to a pier. They went over there and it was a small dog that had been holding on the pier by wrapping its front paws around it. How long the dog had been there is anyone’s guess because it had rubbed most of the hair off the inside of its front legs trying to hold on to the pier. When the two pulled the dog from the water it collapsed in the bottom of the boat and could not stand up from exhaustion. John & Tawny took care of the dog all day and it revived. The only food that they had was cheese crackers and they said the dog ate three packages. A add in the local paper was placed and they took the dog home with them. They plan to call him “Texoma”.
