With 30 degree weather forcasted for the day and 45 degree water temps, the 8 teams the competed knew from the beginning that the fishing would be very difficult. As the teams left the launch ramp to begin fishing, most figured that a couple of bites could easily translate into a win.
The team of Andy Mills and Mike Mak did just that with 3 bass weighing 6.40 pounds. They also caught the tournament’s big bass with a largemouth weighing 2.73 pounds. The team mostly targeted backwater areas using soft plastic baits.
Finishing in second place was the 2004 KRTC Anglers of the Year team of Ray Call and Don Deerwester. They brought 2 bass to the scales that weighed 4.24 pounds. They targeted both backwater and main river areas with soft plastics. The team commented on how they had ample opportunities to catch their limit but unfortunately they couldn’t hook up with most of them. Fishing alone and finishing in third place was Jeff Denton with 2 bass weighing 3.94 pounds. Denton also targeted backwater areas with soft plastics to catch his fish.
The KRTC regular season will commence on April 3rd launching out of the Kankakee Marsh ramp.
