2016 season scheduled to kick off April 21 on Lake Erie
Minn Kota, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric trolling motors, has renewed its partnership with the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour for 2016. The agreement comes as the NWT prepares for the season to kick off April 21-22 on Lake Erie.
“Minn Kota has been a key sponsor of the NWT from the beginning,” said NWT Tournament Director Anthony Wright. “So many of our anglers rely on their products. We’re proud to represent their brand and look forward to another season together.”
Since its founding, Minn Kota has led the way in product innovation and cutting-edge technology. The Minn Kota electric trolling motor began its life in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mr. O. G. Schmidt, inventor of the trolling motor, was known to be a man of many diverse ideas. Prior to the trolling motor, Mr. Schmidt invented, produced and sold a copper-soldering torch from his home in Wheatland, North Dakota.
Due to its success, manufacturing operations were then moved to Fargo. Because of its proximity to the MINNesota – North DaKOTA border, Mr. Schmidt named the business The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company.
“We’re proud to support the National Walleye Tour,” said Minn Kota Sr. Business Director-Marketing Joe Brown. “We’re passionate about walleye and multi-species angling and the NWT is a top-level tournament trail. This partnership is a great opportunity to show our support for a key group of anglers.”
The Cabela’s NWT will begin the 2016 season April 21 on Lake Erie and will include a total of three qualifying events, plus a year-end championship. Official registration for all events will begin in January, both online and by phone. The NWT website offers numerous details on the circuit, including official rules, tournament structure, payout and incentives.
All NWT events will deliver 100% payback. A fully rigged Ranger Boat, plus cash, is guaranteed for first place at each event – a minimum total value of $57,000. Multiple contingency programs are available for even higher payout. Anglers that fish all three regular-season events, in addition to the top points leaders, will qualify for the three-day, entry-fee championship.
The Cabela’s National Walleye Tour also includes unmatched television and media coverage, allowing a national audience to watch the action unfold from each event throughout the season. Airing on multiple networks, the NWT will be seen on the Pursuit Channel, NBC Sports Network, Fox Sports Net North, Comcast Chicago and the World Fishing Network.
