Torqeedo, the German manufacturer of high-tech electric outboards is one of three companies to be nominated for this year’s German Start-Up of the Year award, as chosen by the committee of the Deutscher Gruenderpreis. It is the first time a company from within the marine industry has made the shortlist.
“This nomination is a great recognition for all those who have made the success of Torqeedo possible,” said Torqeedo co-founder and managing partner Christoph Ballin. “Not only our 25 employees in Germany and the US, but especially our outboard customers and our trade and distribution partners in 30 countries.”
Torqeedo was nominated for its fundamental improvements in electric propulsion. Utilizing the latest motor, battery, electronics and propeller technologies, the company creates superior solutions for its customers. Torqeedo founders Christoph Ballin and Friedrich Boebel were also recognized for their innovative perspective on market opportunities and their international approach.
The Deutscher Gruenderpreis is the most important recognition for exceptional entrepreneurs in Germany. Its organizing committee consists of leading German media and finance institutions and car manufacturer, Porsche. The main prize will be awarded to one of the 3 nominated companies on June 17 during a celebration in Berlin, Germany.
