North Platte Wins Nebraska State High School Fishing Championship on Lewis and Clark Lake

The North Platte High School team of Grant Pavelka and Tyler Rowland brought five bass to the scale Saturday weighing 9 pounds, 14 ounces, to win the 2015 Nebraska State High School Fishing Championship on Lewis and Clark Lake. The win earned the team the title of state champions and qualified the team to compete in the High School Fishing Southern Conference championship on the Arkansas River in October.

The top team on Lewis and Clark Lake that advanced to the Southern Conference Championship was:

1st:          North Platte High School – Grant Pavelka and Tyler Rowland, five bass, 9-14

Rounding out the top 9 teams on Lewis and Clark Lake:

2nd:         Millard North High School – Rees Cudaback and Eli Leggett, three bass, 5-13

3rd:          Lincoln County Bass Bosses – Zane Leibhart and Brent Bergman, three bass, 5-6

4th:          Millard North High School – Caleb Hoover and Grant Young, two bass, 4-3

5th:          Beatrice High School – Zach Jordan and Colton Kelle, one bass, 2-2

6th:          Lincoln County Bass Bosses – Austin Denisse and Keo Wever, one bass, 2-1

7th:          Skutt Catholic High School – Adam Hanna and Zach Stratton, one bass, 1-15

8th:          Skutt Catholic High School – Trevor Kuiper and Jake Billerbeck, one bass, 1-3

9th:          Elkhorn Valley High School – Dalton Smutny, Alex Matinez, one bass, 1-0

The 2015 Nebraska State High School Fishing Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field will advance to a High School Fishing conference championship along with the top three teams from each of the seven TBF/FLW High School Fishing Opens held this season. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, coinciding with the TBF National Championship and an FLW Tour stop in the spring of 2016. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.

In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest high school bass tournament, the 2016 High School Fishing World Finals.
