NYTBF & LIONS CLUB TEAM OPENS PRODUCE ON THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER

CASAMENTO & LATINVILEE TAKE DAY 1 WITH 26.55 LB. SIMS & TOUGHEY TAKE DAY 2 WITH 24.15 LB.

New York The Bass Federation (NYTBF) and the Clayton Lions Club held two open team tournaments on June 25 & 26 out of Clayton NY on the St Lawrence River.

Day 1, June 25 was earmarked as an annual fund raiser for the Lions Club of Clayton NY with twenty nine two-man teams competing for their share of a $2,500 in prize money.

The team of Casey Casamento and Ryan Latinville won the event with a weight of 26.55 lbs. anchored by their kicker bass of 5.50 lb. earning $1,000 for their efforts. Second place went to the team of George Yund and Scott Wedel with a weight of 26.00 lbs. anchored by a 6.03 lb. bass that also took the daily big bass honors earning them $519. Rounding out the top five were Ken Sweeney and Jack Murphy with 25.45 lbs., Willi Steinrotter and Guy Arnold with 23.60 lbs. and John McDougal and Ricky Lee with 23.50 lbs. The interesting thing about Day 1 is you needed at least a 20.30 lb. limit to even hit the top 13 spot.

Day 2, June 26 was earmarked as NYTBF’s annual membership drive tournament and it drew a seventeen boat field of two-man teams.

Charles Sims and Nigel Touhey won the event with a weight of 24.15 lbs. earning $519.  Second place went to the team of Lee Didonato and Dan Murphy with 22.60 lbs. earning them a check good for $323. Rounding out the top five were Willi Steinrotter and Jeff Henkel with 22.25 lbs. earning $201. And Ken Sweeney and Jack Murphy with 21.85 lbs. good for $176 and Brian Sanson fishing solo finished first out of the money with a weight of 20.95 lbs.

This year FLW Outdoors provided one free boater entry ($1,600) to the FWL Costa Series event on the St Lawrence River as a participant’s prize and the team of Garry Woodruff and Dennis Seaborne won that. .

Over the course of these two one day tournaments 46 two-man teams weighed in 18 five-fish limits exceeding the 20 lb. mark. If you’re looking for a world class smallmouth fishery to sample then look no further than upstate New York’s 1,000 Island Region of the St Lawrence River near Clayton NY.
