If “mackerel fishing” is a part of your vocabulary then “King of the Beach” should be, too! The Old Salt Fishing Foundation is counting down the days to the largest King and Spanish Mackerel Tournament on the West Coast of Florida. More than 300 boats of all powers and sizes will converge on Madeira Beach to create the most exciting fishing tournament ever!
“We’ve designed this tournament to match anglers of all abilities”, says Old Salt President and Tournament
Director, Tom Verdensky. “We’ve leveled the playing field and made The K.O.T.B. a tournament that either a seasoned S.K.A. (Southern Kingfish Association) angler OR a novice can win. We’ve taken the size and number of motors on the back of your boat out of the equation. This event is not about how many miles you run to get your fish. It truly is about the fun you have getting there and putting fish on the boat.
THE RUN DOWN…

IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT FISHING…
“Combining a community food festival, i.e. Mad. Beach Food Fest into our tournament seemed natural to us. Fishing is a part of our community so we welcome all to join us” says Verdensky. Now picture a few thousand people having the time of their lives, and you have the biggest and best captains’ meeting out there!
Thursday night kicks off this three-day festival with a bang. Picture this, a ball field on the water just minutes from the Gulf. Add live music, a food festival with the best local flavor, all types of marine and art vendors, boat displays and a kid’s zone.
Friday night continues the fun with more great activities, food and a FREE concerts.
Saturday starts off early afternoon with more food & drinks to try, live music all day, a King and Spanish mackerel weigh-in and over $70,000 in cash and prizes. To end the evening and this festival, a new “King” will be crowned.
The Old Salt Fishing Foundation hosts this semi-annual event to benefit several local charities;
