Pro Chuck McClurkin & Am Evan Marozoff Win A/Q Pro-Am # 3

Anglers Quest 2004 Pro-Am Series #3 blasted off at 6:00 am on Lake Conroe out of Anchorage Marina with 20 Pro-Am anglers showing up to go for the all cash purse of $1760.00. This Series will provide the Pro & Am “Anglers of the Year” with free entries to all 2005 Pro-Am Series events. The Pro-Am Series Championship will be held on September 24-25-26 and will be held 1 day on each of 3 different lakes and will take the Top 25 Pros & Ams to a very exciting Championship. All A/Q Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for. After a threat of rain which never materialized into more than a sprinkle, it turned into a pretty nice day to be on the water. The air temp at takeoff was a very nice 63 degrees with a warming to 82 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approx. normal pool level with water temps running in the low 60’s in the main lake. The wind also blew with a 15-20 mph SW breeze and not much sunshine.

Chuck McClurkin from Humble, Tx came to Lake Conroe and powered his Cobra-Mercury rig to Peach Creek spawning beds to catch his 4 bass of 12.20 lbs on unweighted Senko’s. Chuck’s Am draw partner was Mark Rouse from LaPorte, Tx. Mark was able to land 1 bass to finish in 3rd on the Amateur side, but this one bass positioned Mark to take the lead in the Am Angler of the year race. Chuck and Mark reported catching 20 fish with this pattern, but only 5 would be keepers. Chuck collected $800.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his efforts. Mark collected the Am 3rd place Plaque and the 6-pak of Royal Purple Oil for being in the 1st place out of the money.

Pro side 2nd place went to Michael Cox from Willis, Tx. Michael reported running his bass rig to south lake coves and pockets to catch 3 spawning bass at 8.50 lbs on oz blk/blu jigs. Michael had a 3.73 lber for 1st Pro Big Bass and collected $380.00 and the A/Q plaques for his efforts. The first place out of the money Royal Purple TCW3 oil and the 3rd place Pro Plaque went to Pro Brian Penso for his catch of 3 bass at 7.90 lbs.

Am Evan Marozoff from Willis, Tx finished in 1st on the Amateur side with 1 bass at 3.55 lbs. Evan reported catching his bass casting a tx rigged watermelon brush hog in the north lake area. Evan’s catch was the Big Bass on the Am side, a 3.55 lber to collect $400.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his day on the water with Pro partner Tony Hawk. Am Chris Chaires from Humble, Tx fished with Pro partner Eddy Thomas and landed 1 keeper bass at 3.21 lbs on a spinner bait, fishing 1-2 ft of water/grass in Caney Creek to get 2nd place and the A/Q plaque and $180.00.
