Pro Joe New & Am Jesse Johnson Win A/Q Pro-Am #2

Anglers Quest 2005 Pro-Am Series #2 blasted off at 6:35 am on Lake Livingston out of Kickapoo Bait & Tackle with 26 Pro-Am anglers showing up to go for the all cash purse of $2900.00. This Series will provide the Pro & Am “Anglers of the Year” with free entries to all 2006 Pro-Am Series events. The Pro-Am Series Championship to be held on September 24-25 will be held 2 days on Lake Livingston and will take the Top 25 Pros & Ams to a very exciting Championship. The Top 5 Pro and Am qualifiers will be invited to attend the new “Tournament of Champions” to be held in November and pay the winner a minimum Guaranteed $5000.00 cash. All A/Q Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for. After a week of daytime temps of over 70 degrees, a rainy dreary day returned for tournament day, the air temp at takeoff was at 45 degrees with a warming only to 55 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approx. 6″ above normal pool level with water temps running in the high 50’s in the main lake. The wind also blew with a 10-20 mph breeze. The recent bite on Lake Livingston has been extremely slow and tough. Most Lake Livingston bass have been falling prey to slow rolled spinner baits and jigs flipped into the bushes.

Joe New from Spring, Tx powered his Triton/Mercury bass rig to mid lake areas to catch his 5 bass of 18.42 lbs flipping blk/blu jigs to very shallow reeds and wood. Joe reported catching 8 fish with this pattern, one of these was the Big Bass of the event, a fine 4.56 lber to anchor his win and collect $1130.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his efforts. Pro side 2nd place went to Jerrid Theisen from Huntsville, Tx. Jerrid reported running his HydroSport/Rude bass rig to north river areas to catch 5 bass at 15.91 lbs fishing blk/blu jigs to collect $500.00 and the A/Q plaque for his efforts. Pro Greg Crawford landed 5 bass at 11.45 lbs fishing spinner baits around shoreline cover to capture 3rd place and $300.00 for his day on the water.

Am Jesse Johnson from Huffman, Tx finished in 1st on the Amateur side with 3 bass at 10.59 lbs. Jesse reported catching his bass flipping jigs in the mid lake area while fishing with Pro partner Joe New. Jesse had the heavy Am sack of the day to collect $500.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his day on the water. Tim Patterson from Huffman, Tx came to the scales with 2 bass at 5.81 lbs to collect the 2nd place A/Q plaque and $240.00. Tim was paired up with the Pro partner Toby Hartsell. Jake Goodrum, paired up with Pro Chuck McClurkin brought in the Big Bass of the day for the Ams at 4.42 lbs and collected 3rd place and $230.00 for his efforts. Jake reported catching his bass in Kickapoo creek flipping a tube bait.

The next Pro-Am event is scheduled for March 20 on Lake Conroe and will go out of Anchorage Marina. Anglers Quest will be on Lake Livingston on March 5 for the 5th of 20 Guaranteed $1000.00 winner Saturday Series events.
