Pro Tony Hawk & Am Gene Miller Win A/Q Pro-Am #1

Anglers Quest 2005 Pro-Am Series #1 blasted off at 7:00 am on Lake Houston out of Lake Houston Marina with 22 Pro-Am anglers showing up to go for the all cash purse of $2420.00. This Series will provide the Pro & Am “Anglers of the Year” with free entries to all 2006 Pro-Am Series events. The Pro-Am Series Championship to be held on September 24-25 will be held 2 days on Lake Livingston and will take the Top 25 Pros & Ams to a very exciting Championship.

The Top 5 Pro and Am qualifiers will be invited to attend the new “Tournament of Champions” to be held in November and pay the winner a minimum Guaranteed $5000.00 cash. All A/Q Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for. After a week of daytime temps of over 70 degrees, ole man winter returned for tournament day, the air temp at takeoff was at 44 degrees with a warming only to 49 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approx. 6″ above normal pool level with water temps running in the low 50’s in the main lake. The wind also blew with a 5-12 mph NE breeze. The recent bite on Lake Houston has been extremely slow and tough. Most Lake Houston bass have been falling prey to slow rolled spinner baits and jigs flipped into the bushes.

Tony Hawk from Humble, Tx powered his Champion-Mercury bass rig to West Fork areas to catch his 4 bass of 11.39 lbs on Lake Fork tackle TX rigged black craw worms. Tony reported catching 8 fish with this pattern, but only 4 would be keepers, one of these was the Big Bass of the event, a fine 5.33 lber to anchor his win and collect $1210.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his efforts. Pro side 2nd place went to Chuck McClurkin from Humble, Tx. Chuck reported running his Triton/Mercury bass rig to West Fork areas to catch 4 bass at 10.16 lbs fishing TX rigged worms to collect $400.00 and the A/Q plaque for his efforts.

Am Gene Miller from Houston, Tx finished in 1st on the Amateur side with 2 bass at 4.65 lbs. Gene reported catching his bass flipping jigs & spinner baits in the south lake area. Gene had the heavy Am sack of the day to collect $500.00 and the A/Q Trophy for his day on the water with Pro partner Randy Quin. Kevin Foxworth from Baytown, Tx came to the scales with 2 bass at 4.00 lbs even to collect the 2nd place A/Q plaque and $200.00. Kevin was paired up with the Pro winner Tony Hawk.

The next Pro-Am event is scheduled for February 27 on Lake Livingston and will go out of North Shore R/V Resort. Anglers Quest will be on Lake Livingston on February 5 for the 3rd of 20 Guaranteed $1000.00 winner Saturday Series.
