John Weiss, Chief Product Development Officer for Pure Fishing announced today that they, in partnership with W.L. Gore & Associates have created an innovative fishing line that incorporates GORE’s Performance Fibers. Pure Fishing, a global leader in fishing tackle manufacturing, is the maker of SpiderWire, the original and most popular braided line.
“We’ve been working with the scientists and marketing teams of GORE since 2003,” said Weiss.. After years of experimentation and product development, Pure Fishing has discovered an optimum use of GORE’s ePTFE (expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene) fiber in a sinkable braided fishing line. We will continue to research and develop additional products incorporating the GORE fibers.”
“We have been working with Pure Fishing on fishing line concepts for several years and are excited about this innovation that utilizes the unique properties of GORE Performance Fibers to provide a line that sinks more like fluorocarbon, but casts like traditional braided lines,” said Kent Smith, Business Leader, Gore Fibers.
Created with 50-percent GORE fibers, SpiderWire Ultracast FluoroBraid sinks similar to fluorocarbon, but has the fishing properties found in traditional braided lines. The line will be manufactured in the U.S.A.
“When you think about the clear fluorocarbon revolution in bass fishing, you begin to realize that the pros have embraced it in all kinds of power bass fishing techniques that have little to do with line visibility,” added Clay Norris, SpiderWire St. Product Manager. “Line invisibility is certainly a bonus, but it actually is all about the density and sensitivity of the line — the more direct profile in the water from your rod tip to your bait. That improves not only sensitivity, but also hook setting time and hook setting power. Those are critical advantages in competitive fishing. With new SpiderWire Ultracast FluoroBraid, we have the strength and no-stretch attributes of a Dyneema based superline that also has a sinking profile in the water, similar to fluorocarbon lines. The best of both worlds.”
Introduced at the 2010 ICAST show in Las Vegas, Nev., SpiderWire Ultracast FluoroBraid uses a multi-patented process to combine Dyneema, the world’s strongest fibers, and GORE ePTFE fibers to create the first truly sinking braided fishing line.
“We already sell the finest braid, the choice of the pros, with SpiderWire Ultracast and Ultracast InvisiBraid,” said Norris. “But, like any 100% Dyneema or Spectra line, these braids all float. Therefore, we took our development work a different direction with SpiderWire FluoroBraid and our partnership with GORE. The most remarkable feature of the Gore Performance Fiber, among its many remarkable features, is its density. Gore has introduced us to a fluoropolymer material that sinks — and when used in a fishing line is castable and manageable. When the Gore fluoropolymer is blended with the strength of Dyneema in our exclusive process, we have created a line that sinks similar to fluorocarbon, but still has the casting and fishing attributes of a traditional braided superline.”
