Anglers Quest Rayburn Saturday 1st Series #1

Anglers Quest 2012 Sam Rayburn Saturday 1st Series #1 out of The Umphrey Pavilion at Sam Rayburn, Tx began this event with 122 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $8045.00 purse. Any team entering 6 of the 1st & 2nd series of Sam Rayburn Saturday Series events will automatically qualify for the 2-day Rayburn Championship. The top team in points after both series will be declared the Team Anglers of the Year and will be awarded free entries to all 2013 Rayburn Saturday Series events. The teams entering all 8 Rayburn Saturday 1st & 2nd series events will automatically qualify for all 3 of the Lakes Saturday Series 2-day Championships. Any team qualifying for any A/Q Championship will be allowed to enter the “Tournament of Champions” on October 20-21 at Lake Falcon.

This 1st event of 2012 was started at 6:50 am. Sam Rayburn water was in good shape and 12.07 feet below normal pool level with water temps running 53-56 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 52 degrees with a warming to 79 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was good on Big Sam today as there were 37 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 207 bass at 497.95 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.40 lb.

The team of Ricky Guy from Humble, Tx & Larry Cotton from Huffman, Tx ran Larry’s Skeeter/Evinrude bass rig to Harvey creek areas over grass to catch their bass throwing rattle traps and swim baits in 2-6 ft of water using their H & H Rods & Shimano reels. They managed to cull numerous times to finish with 23.58 lbs. This win made them $2200.00 for their day on the water. Larry also collected the Power Pole “Captains Cash” for winning with his new Power Pole purchase.

The team of Todd Castledine from Nacogdoches, Tx & Jason Bonds from Lufkin, Tx run Todd’s Legend/Mercury bass rig to north lake creek areas to probe the ditches, drains & points with grass using Dobyns rods & Shimano reels tipped with Strike Pro flap jacks, Combat jigs & Kicker Fish Baits Kicker Craws to bring 21.01 lbs to the scales. Todd & Jason finished in 2nd and collected $1100.00 and caught over 80 fish on the day. They wanted to also thank Power Pole, Sun Dog sunglasses & Hydrowave for their support.

The AOY team of Rusty Clark from Sam Rayburn, Tx & Cory Rambo from Orange, Tx finished in 3rd with 18.23 lbs. The team of Clint Kirby & Robert Kesler from Lufkin, Tx finished in 4th and collected $800.00. Shelby Shaw & Chris Schultea finished in 5th with 17.22 lbs and collected $600.00.
