Season opener was held on beautiful Lake Brownwood where we found clear skies and very light winds, just the type of day we prayed for in February, “Thank You Lord”. With the lake level only about 3.5 feet low and the water temp in the high 50’s and the sounds of our trusted Mercury Outboards in the back ground couples started out full of excitement about the day ahead.
Roy and Teresa Smith of Brady Texas showed that they will be a team to watch this season when they came to weigh-in with three fish and a weight of 7.93 lbs. to win the first CAST/WEST tournament. Roy said the fishing was thought but the jig seemed to work best for them. The Smith’s took home a real nice plaque furnished by J-ANN Awards and a check for $500 dollars. Congratulations on your First Place finish a great start on the 2002 season.
Our 2nd place couple was Joe Martin and Crystal Locket of Brownwood Texas with four fish and a weight of 6.09 lbs. Joe and Crystal worked the jig also to help them bring home their plaque and $315 dollars. This team will also be in the running at the end of the year for The Team of the Year honors.
Our third place team William and Shannon Cole also of Brownwood had two fish with a weight of 5.27 lbs to win $185 dollars and a nice plaque also.
Big Bass and 4th place goes to Jessee and Carrie Allen also of Brownwood with one bass weighing 4.86 lbs taking home $260 dollars and a plaque.
