Anglers Quest 2010 Rayburn Saturday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Saturday Series for Sam Rayburn is complete for 2010. The event began on Friday evening with dinner & drinks at The Stump with the presentation of the special ” Anglers Quest Goal Post” to the “2010 Anglers of the Year”, Rusty Clark & Cory Rambo, they will receive free paid entries to all A/Q Sam Rayburn Saturday Series Events again in 2011. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $50 to $340 and raised $2395.00 to add to the anglers pot. As at all Anglers Quest Championship auctions, there were 10 Limit Stix American Rodsmiths rods auctioned off to raise $ for the “Tournament of Champions” coming up at Lake Palestine in November.
The weather was clear and very nice on Saturday with mid 50’s at daybreak to low 80’s during the day with a light southerly breeze for the event. Because of the lake level being 8 ft below normal pool the event got underway with the 25 qualified teams taking off into the dim morning light from their choice of launch ramps around the lake at 6:50 am. The anglers were all going for the $12,065.00 purse that was the payback by Anglers Quest at this Championship event. The water at Sam Rayburn was in good condition. At the end of the day the 25 teams brought in 14 limits of bass, 80 fish that totaled 205.09 lbs with a 2.56 avg.
The team of Jody & Glenn Herrington brought in the Big Bass of the event. Glenn laid claim to catching the 6.19 lber in 15 ft of water on a plum apple C/R 10″ ole monster worm. That one bite paid Glenn $750.00.
The team of Keith Worthy from Orange & Chuck Sheffield from Kirbyville brought in a limit of 5 bass at 14.06 lbs to collect $325.00. They also had the 2nd Big Bass at 6.02 lbs and collected another $500.00 for that one bite. Keith & Chuck received a total of $825.00 for their finish in 6th.
The team of Chris McCall from Jasper & Pete Shivers from Kirbyville brought in a limit of 5 bass at 14.34 lbs to claim 5th and collect $610.00. Chris & Pete did not buy their team in the Calcutta, BUT Ray Beck did and received $170.00 for his purchase of $340.00.
The team of Brian Branum & Bill Rogers from Brookeland brought in 5 bass at 14.57 lbs to claim 4th place and $815.00. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction on Friday night for $110.00 and got a check for their 4th place finish for $380.00. They won a total of $1195.00.
The team of Ben Vaughn & Michael Latham from Lufkin ran their Champion all over Sam Rayburn and came to the scales with 5 bass at 16.24 lbs to give them a 3rd place and $1075.00. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $`120.00 and laid claim to an additional $480.00 for a total payday of $1555.00.
The team of Larry Weppler from Houston & Dennis Fikes from Kingwood brought in a 5 bass limit at 17.24 lbs and claimed 2nd place and $1750.00. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $70.00 and received a check for $575.00. For their day fishing they received $2325.00.
The 2009-2010 Angler of the Year team of Rusty Clark from Sam Rayburn & Cory Rambo from Orange ran their Ranger to mid lake areas in 2-8 ft water with grass in numerous creeks and put together a nice limit of 18.01 lbs to finish 1st in this championship event and collected $3545.00. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $280.00 and received an additional $790.00 for their 1st place finish. Rusty & Cory received a total check for $4335.00…..not bad for 1 day of fishin, Good Job Guys!!
Anglers Quest 2011 Schedules are now available online at the anglers-quest website. The 1st events for the 2011 season will be the Saturday Series Team event on Sam Rayburn, January 8, & the Individual event on January 9, 2011.
